“Oh honey, what have you done to yourself?” Edith tutted as she picked at the hundreds of inky black feathers tangled up in Rill’s mane.

“It was for the aesthetic!” Rill defended himself. He was going for a haughty and indignant tone, but at that moment, Edith had tugged out a particularly tangled feather, and it came out more as a whiny yelp instead. “Come on, if it had worked, it would have looked amazing!”

“Oh darling, you should have come to us right away,” Edith said, shaking her heads. “We could have told you this wouldn’t work.” As she plucked out each feather, she absentmindedly pinned them into her own mane alongside her spikes, and Rill couldn’t help but notice that the haphazard way that she was placing them was actually starting to look really good, much to his annoyance. She was taking his look…and wearing it better than him? How dare she!?

Still, he could only sit there and squirm as Edith worked away. It felt like hours later when she sat back with a sigh, tapping one of her chins thoughtfully while the other arm supported her elbow. Her other head leaned over, squinting at his mane to search for any missed feathers.

“Well, now. Looks like that’s all of them,” she finally announced. “Now don’t you be tryin any of that nonsense again, you hear? Honestly, don’t know what you were thinkin, tryin to wear feathers in your hair like that.”

Rill gave her a gobsmacked look, before gesturing wordlessly towards her own ruff, which was more feathers than fur at the moment.

“Hmm?” Edith hummed, looking down at her ruff. “Oh! Oh, yes, well. We’re professionals, honey. Of course we make this look good.” She fluffed her fur up for emphasis, making the feathers catch the light and shine like onyx gemstones.
Rill could only stare at her. “Unbelievable,” he muttered.

“If you’d like,” Edith smirked, and gave him a wink. “We could give you a few tips.”

“Are you kidding me?” Rill asked, “Absolutely!”

“C’mere darling, We’ll teach you everything we know.”
