Having a parent die is traumatic. There's no arguing that. It forces children to learn coping mechanisms years before they should. Akira chose escapism after the accident, and fled into The World. The World was an online RPG where one could make their avatar, then complete quests for rewards. She was good at it. She should be, considering the amount of hours she'd sunk into the game.

Years later, she claimed the title of Top Player. Every quest that came out? Completed. All items? Hers. Her prowess attracted a large following, but she really only cared about her guild: a small collection of other players that stayed by her side all those years. They were her only friends, and she was determined to track them down (because anything was better than living with her Aunt Zita). Turns out, most of them were already working for Schwartz Industries. What a happy coincidence!
