The Divine Messenger

When the Great Plaguebringer chose a herald, he made sure to keep things simple.



Herald is a divine messenger sent to inform nations of His coming. He usually arrives several days before the Plaguebringer to preach to clans from the Vile Scriptures, a text claiming that those who give their bodies to the Plague God will be given new bodies with which to serve Him; stronger than their old ones (those who do not pledge themselves will fall to His contamination, never to be raised by another worldly force).


Although he does not remember his old name, Herald knows that he was born with red plumage. He became pale with death when he was accepted into the service of his deity and his skin took on glassy streaks from where it melted by the smoke of hellfire.


In life, Herald was a priest to the Fire God. But towards the end of his life, he began to feel himself being beckoned by the Plaguebringer. It was not until he had died and risen again that he felt his true power, and with his magic he bound several spirits into a golem and made it his slave. It follows him as he travels around spreading the word of the Vile Scriptures, animated by beautiful pink wisps reminiscent of its master's skin.


Herald loves his job and has been very satisfied with his life as a devotee to the Plague Lord. Flamecaller, however, felt betrayed by the act of one of his priests deliberately abandoning his teachings. As he plotted his revenge, visions of the Plaguebringer came to Herald, asking him to become an Angel of Death. He accepted without hesitation, and the Plaguebringer took him under His divine protection, so that the Flame Lord could not harm him.


And so the glassy pink coatl has been showing up in dusty little towns for decades now, coming in on the cool ocean winds and drifting through, dropping pamphlets in phone booths and church pews. He doesn't say much. He could easily be anywhere. He shows up one day and then disappears overnight like some secretive traveling salesman, only around long enough to rap on your door a few times and flash you a friendly smile.


"Hello, sssssir, ma'am.....let us rejoice, for the Plague Lord rains His blessings down upon you!"
