The twin sisters were born gazing up at the sky. Their mother, Hafwen liked to believe that she was the first thing her children saw when they were born. Perhaps, she would settle with being the first being they beheld, but she knew that their first gazes had been fixed on something else. The great, luminous orb that rested in the Heavens. "Did you know" their father told them, "the moon is simply a reflection of the sun's light". So the children sought to behold the sun too. It was not long before they found themselves caught in an endless loop, staring up at the sky as the moon cycled through its various phases and watching each day as the brilliant sun rose and set. Unlike the majority of their kind, the firstborn children of Hafwen and Acheron never truly fit in with their lineages. Certainly, they inherited the same curses that afflicted their father. They were Barghests. They were Moonbeasts. They were Kitsune. Yet, they never took completely after any of the three. Perhaps it was because their mother was simply a huntress who had retained her mortality despite the number of strange beasts she faced and that shred of humanity was enough to sway their father's cursed blood. It was Hati who eventually took to watching the moon. Her eyes grew accustomed to the night and even in near absolute darkness, her world was in perfect color. She spoke of messages she heard in the stars and became a prophet of the heavens and the ancient light that whispered to her. Likewise, Skoll took after her namesake to watch the sun. Despite her constant gaze, the sun's light never blinded her and she too spoke of prophecy. "The light of the sun reveals the truth in all things" she spoke as she devoured those who would try to lie or deceive in her presence. Eventually, the twins slipped away from their parents and ventured out into the world to follow their own paths. It seemed that they could blend themselves in amongst both mortals and beasts alike, but both of them preferred their solitude with the light above all else.

Official Moonbeast Coloration: Alpha Moonbeast (Standard) Moon at Birth: Full Moon Similar to werewolves, Moonbeasts undergo a Moon-influenced transformation. However, there are major differences. All have a permanent beast-like appearance and by night they 'lose control' becoming savage, bloodthirsty, and destructive. The degree to which they lose control depends on the phase of the moon. Physical features such as claws, fangs, and muscular build might become more pronounced and exaggerated as the moon phase progresses towards Full. Some Moonbeasts have worked so hard to discipline themselves that they only lose complete control on nights of a Full Moon. Something about Light is protective, and Light Moonbeasts have the strongest natural ability in gaining and keeping control. This can make them prideful. However, Light is also revealing and brings unresolved issues to the surface. If Light Moonbeasts don’t deal with their personal issues, their Uncontrolled self might do so for them. Sadly many have, at some point, woken up to dead family, ex-lovers, old enemies, etc. |
