Eureka came to the clan as a fledgeling spiral, old enough to be curious of the world, but not old enough to be wary of it. Known to wind his way into all sorts of unwanted places, his parents hardly noticed when he went missing for days. By the time they did, he’d crossed vast territories, exploring and escaping danger. He found the clan by accident, and claimed he no longer knew which way home was - but he did not seem to mind much.

The little spiral took up an apprenticeship under the clan’s alchemist. He showed great promise, especially when it came to potions. ‘Eureka’ was not his first name, but rather a nickname that simply stuck. He spent day and night at his cauldron, constantly experimenting with new potions. It was one such potion - intended to thicken a dragon’s mane - that inadvertently changed him into a tundra.

For the most part, Eureka took the change in stride. While his vision was poorer, his sense of smell was heightened, a boon for his work. It also provided new and intriguing experiences to explore. Leaving his lab for the first time in years, Eureka joined Krea on patrol to learn more of tundra ways and skills. Out in the field, he found his potions to be uniquely useful, and a whole new testing ground was opened up to him. Now, Eureka divides his time between his experiments and training up young acolytes for the Windsinger’s service.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

It is impossible to meet Eureka without noting his enthusiastic and cheerful nature. While this makes him initially likable, it can quickly become rather worrisome. This dragon is constantly chipper, and seems to have a devil-may-care mentality when it comes to boundaries, safety or good common sense. His motto seems to be, “We won’t know until we try!” And everything is worth trying. Especially if it’s taboo.

Even so, Eureka has learned something from experience, and usually refrains from conducting truly dangerous experiments around anyone other than himself and his little assistant, Tahrami. “Screaming and panic distract from the task at hand,” he reasons, and so civilians are better left out of the process.

While he appears obsessed with his work, Eureka does actually take great care to make sure the end result is helpful to his clan. He constantly questions those who use his potions on their effects, looking for ways to refine it. Over time, other dragons realize that he cares deeply for others, in spite of his flippant demeanor. It is this quality that makes him a valued member of the clan, eccentricities and all.
