#6: Agdluak, The Lingering Chill
"His glare, decisive as the Icewarden's."
Agdluak was a renowned battlemage in Ice territory, chosen by the will of the Icewarden, before she lost a forelimb in battle and had to step down from this position. Never ones to waste a useful asset, her superiors reassigned him to observe the work done here in the Heartcell in the name of his flight. Ever a proud dragon, he is unashamed by the nature of his position, knowing any role he could take to be important in the eyes of her deity.
Of all of the representatives, she is one of the most dubious of the tolerability of the work being done in the Heartcell. Its fell energies set off her danger sense in a similar way to the Fortress of Ends itself, and he is not ashamed to declare that feeling, regardless of its reception by his audience; Agdluak has never been one to compromise with the "inexperienced".

Dragon Name/Widget: Agdluak [he/she]
Current Flight: Lightning
Clan Name: The Heartcell
How did your dragon join your clan? - after he lost a foreleg in battle, and as such, was impeded in that vocation, he was sent by the will of the Icewarden to our clan as an emissary, diplomat, and perhaps a bit of a monitor, like all of my flight reps [in one way or another].
his sending was one of the more direct ones; he received an honorable discharge from service and was sent here with the thought process of: Arcane and Lightning can't be a good mix, surely we gotta have someone competent on the ground in case something goes horribly wrong... but we also gotta make sure the dragon we send doesn't seem like some kind of thinly veiled threat. so, cute-looking three-legged tundra wizard it is. ain't she a sweetie?
Was your dragon born with Primal eyes or magically altered? - she was born with em! hatched in the midst of a furious winter blizzard, her egg was filled with a surge of icy power. it has followed her ever since, a chilling storm within her chest that keeps her cool and steady.
How do the Eleven choose who to bestow their favor (granting Primal eyes at hatching)? Or is it just luck of the draw? - it's a combination of strong leyline influence [location-based] and the magical capacity within the hatchling. if a dragon is hatched in a highly magical location [leyline junction/magical surge location] with high magical potential, they form a connection with their deity that leads to primal eyes. the deities don't usually actively choose specific hatchlings, they are effectively chosen by circumstance and the deity's influence without em having to lift a talon.
Do you pretend that every dragon was born with their eye type, even if a vial was used to change it? Or do you incorporate vials/scrolls/etc into your lore? - case by case. some dragons in my lair canonically use scrolls/vials/etc and others are essentially "retconned" into being their present appearance. depends on the kind of narrative i want to write for them.
however, in my lore, primal vials do not exist. primals come from deepening one's connection with their element naturally. so that's a part of my lore, even if it hasn't come up yet. i have a breeding project for whom that's the plan. wasn't blessed at birth due to the lack of a power surge at his place of hatching, but had incredible talent for lightning magic and as such developed primal eyes.
Does having primal eyes really give that dragon more power over their element or is it just for aesthetic purposes? - having primal eyes doesn't really give a dragon more power over their element as much as it represents a dragon who has or has come into more power over their element.
Is a natural-hatched Primal more powerful than one who had their eyes magically altered? - depends on what you think of it. natural primals are power loci; they take a little bit of ley energy with them wherever they go, and as such can help empower those around them of the same element. earned primals are usually more proficient with their magic than natural ones, because in essence they have had to mimic a magical surge within themselves. however, they cannot empower their fellows indirectly in the same way.
Does the clan have any "expectations" for your dragon? - expectations the employees and residents of the Heartcell have for Agdluak largely come from his mission here, and his role as a representative, not from his eyes. however, he is not necessarily free from the expectation that he will be a very talented caster with connections to his deity. however, this is all true, and dragons believing something about him that is both flattering and true? well, that doesn't bother him at all.
Any extreme reactions your dragon encounters? (Fear, near worship, excitement, etc) - the presence of a natural primal is almost always empowering and reassuring to dragons of their flight by way of their ley connection, but to those not of Ice she is like any other who is here on work from another flight; so to speak, regarded with a little more chill than natives or true migrants would be.
however, there is one dragon whose reaction to his arrival was slightly fanatical: Enya, who had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of an Ice representative. Agdluak, however, certainly doesn't take umbrage at being revered.
Have primal eyes made finding a mate easy or hard for your dragon? - in a manner of speaking, they have made it difficult, in that hatching with primal eyes set Agdluak on a path that leaves her somewhat married to her work.
up until his injury and his new deployment, the thought of finding a partner likely never crossed his mind, but the trauma has recontextualized some things for him. however, primals, particularly of less frightening-looking elements, are respected, so any eye-related difficulty in finding a mate would come from dragons wanting to date the primal, not the dragon the primal is.
Does your dragon like having primal eyes? - Agdluak is very proud of her primal eyes, to the extent that she is prone to minimizing the degree to which having primal eyes has steered her life towards pain and struggle. she doesn't question the will of her deity.
How does the power (depending on clan lore) manifest in your specific dragon? - he brings a significant chill to his vicinity by being present, and seems to be highly resistant to extreme temperature in both directions, though dry heat in particular bothers him. he is highly attuned to disturbances in reality and the presence of anything alien, which leads him to avoid the Heart if he can help it. he wields strong magic and, having trained extensively in that magic, is in precise control of it. he has a particular knack for freezing things in place.
How did you (or your dragon) choose the familiar? - i chose Auril because she came out this festival and i didn't have any other ice familiars, but she also happened to mesh very well with Agdluak's whole vibe. i imagine she's some kind of magical serpent-spirit sent to aid Agdluak, a divine emissary for the divine emissary.
Is there any sort of interesting elemental-boost by being paired with a primal? - absolutely! if a familiar is naturally attuned to an element, and they are paired with a natural primal of that element, then they will gain the same ley boon as a dragon would---a natural primal is an indiscriminate island of element.
How does your familiar interact with your dragon? - i like to imagine her draped around his shoulders, giving him telepathic advice and serving as a like-minded being to bounce ideas and thoughts off of.
How does your dragon having primal eyes impact the familiar, if at all? - it was how they were originally bonded! she was drawn to Agdluak's divine energy and is a fated ally.
