Requiem deflects most questions about his past, stating that he is already at peace with it and further reflection will not help him. He is open about the general details, however: a conflict with a neighboring clan came to a bloody resolve, decimating most of his original clan. In the conflict, his back left leg was severely injured, and with most of the clan killed, he was unable to obtain medical attention. As a result, while he managed to be one of few dragons to survive the conflict, his leg lost most function, being unable to fully extend and the dexterity in his claws being lost. After much time spent coming to terms with his loss, he gets around well on just three legs, using the damaged one to hold his pearl.

It took many years for Requiem to accept the loss of his family and clan. Unable to stay near his destroyed home, the Pearlcatcher traveled for a long time. Initially, he refused help and would only fend for himself. However, over time, he opened up to assistance from friendly clans that would give him a place to stay for the night or some supplies to help. Such kindness eventually helped him come to terms with his past, and enabled him to trust others again.

Requiem eventually arrived in Gestalt, where he currently resides. While much of the clan was hatched there, or joined without a dark past looming over them, many dragons also have histories of loss or abandonment. Requiem serves as a counselor of sorts, giving those dragons a confidential place to discuss their past and any lingering fears or anger. As the kindness of other dragons has helped the Pearlcatcher feel at peace with his own losses, he hopes to help others in Gestalt find peace as well.
