On the necessity of Class-D personnel to the Coalition wrote:
With our welcome into this new world, and the decision to maintain an offshoot of the Foundation with it, the topic of Class-D personal came into question.
For one, this world has no higher form of law or justice system, as the societies in Sornieth are highly independent, with each clan of dragons* often having it’s own form of government, and the Beasts having various forms of society that have yet to be researched. Additionally, since this planet has been warring for eons, the societies that have developed are much more bellicose. War and violence are accepted as common realities, and as such they are not held to the same moral standards as on Earth.
Upon further discussion, the necessity of Class-D personal to the Coalition came into the question for one primary reason. On Earth, anomalies vary in almost all ways, most notably with their lethality and their method of energy consumption/conversion. SCPs often gain energy through the consumption of the energy of other living beings, often consuming energy until there is little to nothing left, which creates a danger for all life forms involved, especially personnel and civilians. With this method of consumption of energy, it is generally accepted by the Foundation that Class-D personnel are a necessary evil.
Conversely, the Shade, the source of most of the anomalies on Sornieth, seems to thrive on corruption rather than consumption. The parasite attaches itself to various beings, both animate and inanimate, and corrupts them until they can continue the spread. By utilizing the elemental power that this world provides, the influence of the Shade can be safely removed from the victim.
As the effects of the anomalies of this world tend towards being reversible, and there being no moral or legal basis to define a set of standards that would allow for recruitment as a D-Class employee, the [REDACTED] has come to the decision that Class-D personnel will not be utilized by the Coalition at this time.
