Raiden was born to a large clan of mirror dragons which was known for its ferocity and speed during the hunt. As he grew and the clan migrated through the world looking for new and tasty prey, Raiden became powerful in battle but lacked in agility. He was often found trailing at the back of the pack and struggling to keep up. Last to arrive to the prey and last to eat, Raiden grew weaker as he aged. Although the other dragons in his clan were not cruel to him, they had no sympathy for a dragon they deemed too slow to keep up.

One night during a hunt in the Stormcatcher's Domain, a storm came upon Raiden's pack and he was left behind as the others fled to safety. Caught up in the tossing winds and blinded in both sets of eyes, Raiden found himself at the mercy of the storm. As he pushed his way forward through the storm, Raiden felt his claws touch open air. He fell off the side of a large mesa and directly into the tangle of wires commonly found in the Shifting Expanse, unable to fly to safety.

Raiden awoke on the back of a shining guardian dragon. Her limbs were metallic and circuitry seemed to run through her scales, but as she looked back at him he saw that her eyes were kind. Once the two were to safety, he told this dragon of his life as part of a transient pack. Her name was Joule, she told him, and the two of them would work together to make a place for all dragons left behind or abandoned by their families. This would become The Circuit.

As a founding member and mate of the matriarch of the Circuit, Raiden acts as a second in command and trainer to all prospective coliseum dragons in the clan. He is commonly found in the Coliseum, which satisfies his instinct for hunting. Although he is kind, Raiden is often silent and rarely speaks to anyone except his coliseum students, Joule, and his daughter Spearmint.
