Comprising an accumulation of tiny hydrated silica spheres that produce a dominant reddish-orange spectrum upon light reflection, it is commonly misclassified as a “mineral”.
Fire opal is actually not a mineral because it does not have its own crystalline structure.
Fire opal stones are far rarer than regular opals and are defined by the phenomenon known as ‘play of colour’: the stone could possess spots, flashes, sparkles or even patterns of different pure colours that surface when held at different angles.
Furthermore, the fire opal’s naturally occurring colours are far brighter and vibrant and reflect the shades the stone gets its name from.
Fire opal is thought to relieve energy deficiencies and has always been associated with love and passion.
It is a seductive stone that intensifies emotional states and releases inhibitions.
Wearing an opal is also said to bring about loyalty and faithfulness, as well as enhance personal power whilst awakening one's inner fire and revitalise mind and body.
It is believed to protect against danger and to be an energy amplifier.
