A dragon too wise for his age watches silently from the sidelines.
Roman the Obelisk, by all means, should not be interested in Tephra's clan. He is part of a family of opulent Shadow flight dragons, his father being one of the (relatively) few Obelisks to emerge from the Dustcarve Dig. Roman's family runs the well-known Umbral Winery & Meadery on the outskirts of Murkbarrow Close. Roman grew up very well taken care of and well-educated, if a bit sheltered at times. He was thrilled to take on the duty of running the family trade circuit through the Light and Nature flights, afflicted in his younger years by a very strong case of wanderlust. He is a vendor of wines, fruit juice, dried herbs, and fine wood carvings. He came upon Tephra's clan after a few years of running this trade circuit, and has become inexplicably enamored by its dragons. Very few dragons buy his wares, expensive as they are, but for some reason he keeps returning to the clan. In fact, on occasion he will gift a bottle or two of fine spirit to the clan to share. He will often stay a few days in the clan and spend time with its residents. He takes particular interest in the clan's youth, often making time to speak with Voynich and play with Ruby. Despite his friendly nature, he will also disappear unceremoniously when he feels it is time to move on. Tephra is beginning to be suspicious of Roman's motivations for visiting the clan so frequently. She feels he is privy to information nobody else is, but cannot prove these suspicions in any way. For now, she and Petri have resolved never to leave Roman alone while he stays in the clan, keeping a close eye on his behavior. He has yet to do anything nefarious...but Tephra is worried.
