All faeries are proud, but the Winter Court is the most prideful of them all...

Cold and unsympathetic, the Winter Court fae are as unmoving as the ice they rule over. Earning favor within this court is incredibly difficult, and those who do find it is far easier to lose their favor. The Winter Court is most well known for granting questing dragons justice, but everyone gets their due in time. Ylva was born to the winter fae Cherith and her mysterious consort, the Moon Prince. Even among the fae, Cherith's children are more silent and vagrant, often vanishing from the court as their dark scales pale and returning wordlessly anew. It is said that they draw their strength from the waxing and waning of the moon: its phases are reflected in the irises of their pure black eyes, and they walk like shadows, effortlessly slipping through the fae and mortal realms alike.

Ylva is an only child, the very born to Cherith following the new moon. She was treated as her mother's apprentice almost from birth, brought up beneath the Winter Court's banner and the heavy expectations laid upon her. But Ylva always knew she was not only winter-blooded; her veins seem tied to the changing moon, and there is no fae word for what she becomes when it's vanished from the sky and her eyes succumb completely to inky darkness. It inevitably pulled her from the fae's realm and into the waking world — there, the stories say she runs with wolves, chasing the shadow of the moon.
