Biography
THE SPONSOR
The pearlcatcher sat at the ornate table. It was made of a beige wood and had a pretty, white tablecloth laid over it. He glanced around the large conservatory he was in - exotic plants cluttering the windows and trailing across the shelves. The bogsneak’s voice suddenly rang out. He jumped.
“Would you like some tea, Dr. Kovachi?” Her tongue flicked out of her mouth. She slid over a small porcelain cup. It had lovely gold embellishments, but they depicted snakes strangling dragons. He shook his head in response.
“I’m sure you’re… curious to why I have invited you. But, I guarantee, the Dragonhome Preservation Guild shall take great interest in my proposal.” He wasn’t really looking at her. He was looking at her arm, holding her cup of tea. There was a gilded bracelet on it. It had such magnificent craftmanship – the way the light shimmered on it, it looked as if it were moving.
“Erm, yes. Yes…” He readjusted his collar, feeling stifled.
She took a sip from her drink, allowing the jewellery to flounder in the light. That’s when he realised her bracelet was not, in fact, a bracelet, but rather a golden viper. It had turned its head to stare at him and he gawked back in horror.
“You see, I have… acquired a site not far from here containing various Thunder Lizards – like those Arlo has been unearthing. I would be happy to sponsor a dig there, as long as I get… updated on the progress. I would like information on these ancient animals. Their appearances, diets, behaviours, all the information you know. That is all I ask.”
As he looked around the room, he noticed more snakes. They clung to the plants, hid in the corners, and lounged on the swords mounted on the wall. One was even right next to him, on his chair leg, inches away from contact.
Finally, he remembered to respond.
“Right, right… Yes! Erm. I’m sure we could arrange that.” He chuckled nervously. At this point he just wanted to leave. He clutched his pearl to his chest, not letting any one of those serpentine devils near it. He was only half listening to her.
“I’m sure you won’t disappoint me. Will you, Dr. Kovachi?” She leant over the table, her tongue flickering centimetres from his nose. Her right hand grabbed his, claws digging into his scales. “Will you?”
He made a sudden incomprehensible squeak of noise, before being able to mutter out a small, “No, no! I won’t.”
“Good.” A smile returned to her toothy maw, and she released her grip. He pushed back into his chair, petrified.
“Well, I’ll, erm, get on then!” He too-quickly picked up his bags and pearl and rushed out, just now beginning to comprehend what he had agreed to.

She’s not actually an archaeologist, but simply a very rich dragon who has taken an odd interest in Arlo’s recent work, and has hired some of the best archaeologists and researchers that the Dragonhome Preservation Guild have to offer, to come work at a plot of land she has bought. The site contains Thunder Lizards similar to Arlo’s, but more recent. It also, in other areas, contains more recent and undiscovered animals.
None of the team are actually in direct contact with her, except for the head, who only refers to her as “The Sponsor”. Regardless, whenever they get results, she gives them a large payout. Any tools or equipment they need, is supplied. Some of the team are extatic about being given an amazing opportunity to learn about the ancient world, whilst others, though happy, are suspicious of the mysterious sponsor.

- idea: blind (that’s why she wears the cover) but sees through her snakes
