Lan Miankong | best friend
A dear friend who has accompanied me to the very end… I am glad we are both still living, even now.

Jin Han | former friend
…I wonder how he is doing. Jealousy has corrupted him, and Nangong Hanbei… alas, his wits couldn’t be enough.

Nu Yan’er | best friend
The only one left. It pains me to think of the struggles she must’ve gone through… for her sake, I will keep the home she has raised alive.

77797248.png
Nu Liu’an | grand-niece
She is a formidable cultivator, and I see traces of Yan’er in her… I hope she doesn’t go too far in her ambitions.

GÙ XĪNG | 顾 惺xxspirit of sunlight

“The sun in Chinese culture is all the light and bright and good things you might imagine. One of the ways to say Sun in Chinese is 太陽 (Tàiyáng) and if you go into the details you will see the word “yáng” in it. It also refers to fire, Spring and East…”
The glint of the sun against his blade is the only warning you get; that is the claim by who have fought against Gu Xing. At the beginning of a new age, his name is one of the more famously known ones; the villages he’s saved with his friends and the evils he has vanquished can testify to that. Gu Xing’s sword is named perhaps a bit ominously, but in his hand, it changes into a holy artefact.

His skills are evidently honed through time and practice, but there is no doubt that he is a natural prodigy at fighting; his swordsmanship is said to be one of the best in the entire world, and you can hardly find a swordsman or fighter who doesn’t admire his skills. It is said that he knows every style of swordsmanship in the world, and his fists are not lacking in the strength department either.

His charm draws many to him as well. Rumour has it that he is good with his words too, capable of diffusing fights. The boyish yet mature, fierce yet peaceful nature of his is perhaps the biggest draw to him as a potential marriage candidate.

The stories of him and his group can vary from place to place, but there is one thing that is certain: he will always help those who are in need, so long as they have not committed evil.

*

Even in death, Gu Xing is still remembered; his teachings on fighting are passed down from cultivator to cultivator, families saved by him and his friends still gather around the table and thank them for their survival, and his tales will survive for a very long time.

But it is only recently that whispers have started up again. They claim that a ghostly figure would save those in need, harnessing sunlight in their fights, and they are often accompanied by another ghostly figure with crows surrounding them.

It isn’t hard to connect the dots, as hard as it may be to believe it is true. With those whispers, two more have started: Jin Han’s betrayal has once again been brought up, and there are some curious of how he has fared under the Demon Lord Nangong Hanbei. Others wonder about Nü Yan’er instead; the survivor, rumoured to have left behind a legacy of her own.

But what are the answers, exactly?

Well, that is a story for another day.

“Have you heard? They say Gu Xing has been revived by the heavens!”

NOWxxa ray of hope

Gu Xing had died in darkness, in despair, and he greets death both with a rage that spills out of him and a sorrow that slips from his eyes.

“Do you want a chance?”

He doesn’t know who is speaking, he doesn’t know anything, he can hardly understand what he himself is thinking. But in that moment, his soul cries:

Yes. Yes.

A light starts to form. Bright, blinding, entirely uncertain and unlike the darkness of his death.

Gu Xing closes his eyes, and lets himself fall into the unknown light.

*

Gu Xing used to wonder where he would end up in the future. Would he be in Lan Miankong’s dream retirement plan, living on a farm and being — for once — normal? Would he eventually turn to passing down his teachings to the next generation and grow them into noble hearts? Or would he have crumbled under everybody’s expectations, perhaps falling in battle to an oversight, or simply dying in his sleep?

In the end, he can’t wonder about it for much longer. He’s already died, and he’s been brought back to life; what’s done is done, and all that’s left to do is to come to terms with the weight on his shoulders, and take care of this new world.

He is too late to meet Nü Yan’er one last time, though not too late to take care of the legacy she has left behind — both the sect and her granddaughter. As a spirit granted life once more by the heavens, Gu Xing will uphold his duty and debt to the mortal world and his revivers with grace and full strength.

But that doesn’t mean he won’t try to intervene in things he shouldn’t. He’s not that good at following orders to the smallest detail, after all.
"在千里之外,只有人类在工作,而不是权力。
— Over a distance of a thousand miles, only humanity works, not power.
"

WHATEVER YOU WANT
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

a sword as strong as steel,
a hardy heart of gold;
a blazing sun upon his back,
the proof of myths they told.
with one there is the other; careful – balance…
the guard, the avenger – a savior.
tell me, can you not feel the heavens? Believe?
when, look, within the morning mist – a gift: alight!
