Biography

Name (Age)
???

Kutaru always felt that she was an odd choice for a royal guard. Her family was from Indraleam of all places! Somehow her employers saw through that little flaw and allowed her to join the team. She was a skilled swordswoman and a master of stealth, two abilities that granted her the chance to leave the castle and protect those who traveled. One such assignment led her to become the traveling companion of Cloverfield, the sleepwalking royal prophet. The two got along well enough; they kept to their duties in relative silence. In fact, it took Cloverfield a few months to have a true conversation with the younger guard. It wasn't odd, he was royalty after all and wrapped up in some sort of experiment. He had asked her why she became a guard, and if it was boring just standing around all day. It was a family business she told him, it was just what you were expected to do. As for his other question, she wasn't sure. Yes, there was a lot of standing, but there was traveling and epic fights that came with it. You couldn't have one without the other.

Conversations like this peppered the first few years of their relationship. This small talk only evolved after the passing of Cloverfield's mother one fall day. As he had alienated most of his family after moving into the cottage, Kutaru was the closest thing to a friend he had. It probably didn't help that his experiments had transformed his body, adding extra horns and climbing vines to his tall, lanky body. Somehow the two eventually became true friends, spending evenings watching the wild birds and other fauna that lived in the nearby forest. This relationship came to a head when a mighty storm came from the sea and wreaked havoc on the small glen. The two were trapped in the house for days; the rest of the knights had been sent home to tough out the storm with their families. They had plenty of food luckily, but the few candles they had left little space to wander. The parlor was transformed into a suitable shelter and all the odds and ends they might need were stacked in the corner.

The first few hours went off without a hitch. The rain poured and thunder crackled, but the fire staved off the cold and spirits were high. Around the third day, the wood supply began to dwindle, and partitions were brought in to condense the space. Now, with the once grand parlor transformed into a cave, the prophet and the guard found themselves in an awkward situation. There was little space to stretch out, and, with the cold creeping in, the two had little choice but to share a blanket for warmth. Unsure of what to say in this strange situation, Kutaru brought up a fairytale from her childhood. It was a short little story about talking plates, a rose, and a beastly curse. Cloverfield responded with a laugh, the first one in a while, and made a joke about the odd similarities between the story and where they found themselves. The conversation continued on, hours passing before the two noticed how their bodies had become intertwined. In the dark, Kutaru had rested her head against the should of the other, her hands fiddling with the left hand of the other. Cloverfield didn't seem to mind, as his left arm had eventually wrapped around her shoulders. It felt natural, oddly enough, and the realization did little to move them. It was far too cold to leave the embrace anyway.

Night soon descended on the parlor and sleep overtook the cottage. The sun returned on the fourth day, shining upon the two drekan with little more than an inch between them. Despite sleeping on the floor, they were comfortable and spent the rest of the morning where they lay.
