After randomly buying two xyy green dragons off the AH, I decided to start a legacy project! Of course, I have to thank both @amberfae, for helping me with editing and lore, and @perfectoranges, for inspiring this project!

1. Babies that do not have two shades of green will not be added to the family tree and cannot have the lineage badge.

Qualifying Color Range

2. If you wish to get rid of your hatchling, please ping me so I can take them back! I'd rather these kids not get exalted.

3. In order to claim a free dragon, please ping me or the owner!

4. NO inbreeding please! Inbred dragons will not be added to the family tree.

5. Please breed these dragons! I wanna see how big of a family tree we can get!

Lovers in Arms: A Fairy Tale from Myste

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful knight. She protected her kingdom and loved it so dearly; there was nothing that could pull her away from her duties. She fought for her King and brought home great riches. Everything was perfect, yet she felt her life was dull. The Knight had seen the world but had no place that felt truly like home.

What was the Knight to do?

One day she approached her King and told him, "I would like to train a squire, someone to take my place when I'm gone." The King accepted, and a decree was sent out to local nobles; perhaps one of their sons could take up the sword...

But not one noble took up the call.

Weeks passed, and every day the Knight spent her mornings staring out her window. She hoped and prayed someone, anyone, would come and accept her as their teacher. It took months, but that day finally came...

It was a rainy day, pouring in fact, and lightning lit up the sky. The Knight was sitting by her fireplace, drying off after a morning training in the storm. She had only been dry a few moments before she heard a desperate knock on the door. Her ears perked up at the sound, could this be my Squire? Moving quickly, she approached and slowly opened the door.

"Hello Miss, may I please come in? This storm has soaked me to the bone." A handsome young man with a short beard and glasses stood at her doorstep, covered in glittering gold and beautiful flowers. He looked quite out of place in the woods.

"Of course, my home is always open to those who need it," the Knight replied. The young man stepped inside, a wet puddle forming at his feet. "Now, what is your name, and what brings you here? And would you like some stew? I was about to start cooking dinner."

"My name is Zephon, Miss. I saw your ad for a squire in the next town over, and I came to take up a sword in your name. And anything warm sounds fantastic."
"Wait- you want to train under me!?" She dropped the ladle in her claw and ran to the man. "Are you sure? Even the local nobles refused. Did the storm get to you?" Raising a hand, she felt Zephon's forehead; he felt normal, despite the torrent that brought him to her abode.

"No, Miss, I'm okay." He removed the worried Knight's hand from his face, saying, "Just a little damp, that's all. Your exploits around the kingdom are always a joy to read about. I've been traveling for weeks to meet you." He gave her a soft smile and gently patted her hand.

"Is there a place for me to change? I'd like to be a little less damp," he chuckles.
"Of course!" A bewildered look still across the Knight's face. "Let me grab you something to change into." She quickly hurried off, returning moments later with a white linen shirt and a pair of breeches. "Hopefully, these fit." Once the clothes were in the hands of her new Squire, she returned to the kitchen, thoughts racing.

How does one train a squire? Would he appreciate her teaching? Would she be a good teacher?

Those questions would quickly be answered. In the months that followed, the two began to train regularly, from dawn till dusk: everything from jumps and flips to bows and arrows to daggers. Her Squire picked up these skills quickly - well, except for daggers. He preferred to keep his distance in a fight, excelling at the bow and arrow. A target 100 feet away was no challenge. The training did him well, and his newfound strength began to show itself underneath his half-scaled hide.

When the Knight deemed Zephon ready, she brought him before her King. It was customary for newly trained squires to perform in a gauntlet and show off their newly acquired skills. Such a gauntlet included a sprint through the King's woods, hunting a deer, fending off attackers, and a meal cooked on the fire, all in a full suit of armor. Once all four tasks were successfully completed, a final battle took place against a deadly foe. Only then could a squire officially take up their Knight's coat of arms and become part of the Royal Guard. There had never been a squire to succeed on their first try, and Zephon was no exception. Despite flying through the woods and quickly reaching his destination, the moment the King's men jumped him, he cowered in fear. Perhaps he was not quite ready...

More training was necessary, and the Knight knew just what to do. A fortnight after the tournament, she sent young Zephon out to fetch some meat in the woods and cook something up for dinner. He had become a great cook under her guidance, able to craft fantastic soups and stews with few ingredients. Of course, this was all a trap. At the right moment, she would attack.

Creeping through the woods, the Knight watched her Squire stalk an unsuspecting deer. As soon as he was in firing distance, he notched an arrow and let it fly. The deer was dead in an instant and collapsed on the forest floor. Still hidden in the shadows, the Knight couldn't help but stare. /Had he always been this beautiful?/ The moon had peaked its head through the leaves above and bathed the young man in its light. He glowed, and everything about him was perfect. The Knight couldn't help but fall in love. Entranced by Zephon, she accidentally made herself known as she snapped a large stick underfoot.

"Who's there?" Zephon cried out, removing his sword from his belt. "Show yourself!"

The Knight paused for a moment, clearing her head. This could be a good teaching moment. She readied her weapon and prepared to strike. The Knight pounced as she slashed at her trainee, pinning him to the ground with her blade at his throat before chastising, "You should always be on guard."

But he was prepared for this attack. With a swift move of his leg, Zephon was able to get the Knight under him, switching spots with his master. In the commotion, her blade was thrown to the bushes and out of sight. Now in a compromised position, the Knight gave a signal of surrender, her cheeks flush with embarrassment and perhaps something else.

In the weeks following the hunt, his training only increased. The King's gauntlet was held every four months, and the summer tournament was just around the corner. He put every ounce of strength into preparing, and he would soon reap the benefits of his hard work.

Zephon had to succeed.

The morning of the event, the Knight was a ball of stress. She had been up polishing armor to the wee hours of the morning; it was a nervous tick of hers. But at least it was beautiful, shining like gold in the early sun. Her Squire was sure to stand out today. With the armor done, she turned to breakfast: eggs and bacon were on the menu. The Knight, engrossed in making the perfect meal, failed to notice her trainee emerge from his bedroom. Stepping behind her, he peered over her shoulder, asking, "Oh, eggs? Looks pretty good."

The shorter woman squeaked in surprise, "Oh my gods, Zephon, don't do that! You practically scared me half to death... oh?" She had turned to face him, and something had changed.

"What? Is something wrong? Is there something on my face?" Zephon questioned. He walked over to the mirror by the doorway, checking his skin. The Knight held her breath, watching him walk away. Zephon had /really/ cleaned himself up. His usually unruly mane had been brushed out and braided, and his clean-shaven.
"No! Nothing's wrong! You look just nice today," she admitted. A soft blush tinted her cheeks as she looked away.

Turning back to the Knight, Zephon responded, "Oh? Well, I'm glad you think so." He gave her a goofy smile and made his way to the table.

The rest of the morning went off without a hitch, and the two soon made their way to the fairgrounds.

It was half-past 9 when the Knight and her Squire arrived. The fairgrounds bustled with activity; everyone was trying to sell something. But shopping would have to wait. Passing through the main field, the two soon found their tent and began preparing for the day.

While the Knight worked on setting up her flag, Zephon checked through his armor. "Master, thank you again for taking me in. It's been such a wonderful experience training under you, and I hope I can prove that today."

"Zephon, you've already proven yourself time and time again. And you've made me proud. I am honored to call you my Squire."

Putting the chest plate down, Zephon walked over to his master, grabbing her hand.
"Yes, Zephon?" She looked surprised, her eyebrows practically leaping off her face, and an audible gasp escaped her lips as he pulled her to the back of the tent. "Is there something you need to tell me?" The gap between them quickly closed as the Squire planted a soft kiss on his master's lips. When she reciprocated, he couldn't help but melt into her arms.

"You felt the same way?" Zephon asked earnestly.

"Yes, yes I did. For many moons now, my dear Squire. Alas, this relationship, between Knight and Squire, is forbidden." A heavy sigh escaped her lips as she pulled away.

"Then run away with me. Tonight. After the tournament? We can find a new land, just for us."

"Oh Zephon, that very sweet of you, but that's…" She paused. "… it's so much. I don't know if I could drop everything I have here on such short notice. I love you, but…" she trailed off, unsure of how to respond.

Zephon grabbed her shoulders, looking her square in the eyes. "You are my sun, my moon, and my stars, please," he pleaded. "Run away with me."

It was time for the gauntlet to begin.

A shout was heard, and all competitors sprinted towards the woods, the cacophony of metal against metal could be heard for miles. Despite the events of earlier that day, Zephon promised himself that he would succeed and prove to his Knight he was a person worthy of her courtship. The first task was easy. He had spent the late spring running up and down hills, through streams, and over tangled woods. Sprinting, he soon passed his fellow squires, a few already tapping out.

The Hunt followed. The King had released a herd of deer into his forests specifically for this event. Of course, the loud armor made it difficult to sneak around, but Zephon was sure to land a shot with his trusty bow. Once he had hoisted himself into a large oak tree, he began to scan his surroundings. The woods had finally gone silent, and it wasn't long until a buck had poked its head out from behind a bush. Taking a deep breath, Zephon notched an arrow, making sure his shot would be clean. Once he had steadied himself, he let his shot fly, and it was a perfect bullseye. As the buck crumpled to the ground, the Squire jumped down and made sure the coast was clear. He soon reached the fallen deer and picked it up, throwing it over his shoulder in the process.

His next task was to create a fire and cook up the deer, using whatever herbs he could find. The Knight had given him extensive training on native plants, and what was edible and what was poisonous had been seared into his mind. As Zephon continued through the woods, he came across many who had not received such teachings. Avoiding the fallen squires, he eventually came across a clearing. Scattered about were a few fallen logs and stones: perfect for creating a fire ring. He set the deer down and got to work.

Zephon gathered the sticks and cleared the ground; now, all that was needed were a few stones to contain the fire. As he made his way to the edge of the clearing, Zephon heard a rustling, and a young boy emerged. He couldn't have been more than 12 years of age. The boy raised his sword and readied himself for a fight.
"Young man, you made a mistake entering this tournament. This tournament is no place for a child," Zephon said, raising his sword, and the fight began.

It was clear from the start the boy was in over his head. His attacks were weak and uncoordinated; barely able to raise his sword. Zephon easily scared off the boy, but not before leaving a gash on the boy's cheek. "Perhaps you'll take that to heart."
The boy quickly scrambled away without a word, leaving his unruly sword behind.
With a disappointed huff, Zephon returned to gathering stones and quickly lit a fire. Soon it was hot enough to begin cooking and, once he had separated the meat from the bone, placed the pieces out on a hot stone. As they sizzled away, he returned to the woods and picked up a few sprigs of dandelion, rosemary, and sage to add a punch of flavor to his meal. The meat was soon ready, and the Squire helped himself to a large piece, putting whatever he didn't eat into a sack. The final stage was complete, and now all he had to do was make his way back to the fairgrounds for the arena fight.

An hour or so later, Zephon pushed back the final branch, finding himself again in the starting field. The meat was dropped off by the charity tent, and he made his way to the arena. The gates were opened to momentous applause; this was what the people wanted. He armed himself with his sword and strode confidently to the center of the ring, awaiting his opponent.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

Zephon turned around as a horrifying beast entered the area. It was easily 10 feet tall and wielded a great battle-ax. It had teeth as sharp as knives and a hunger in its eyes. The Squire knew he had to be quick on his feet, as the Creature could easily crush him to a pulp. He lifted his sword and met the Beast in battle, backed by the screaming of the crowd.

Metal clanged against metal as the two engaged in this dance of death. Zephon was able to get a good hit on the Beast's right shoulder before it knocked him back. While he caught himself before he was thrown too far, the impact made him spit up blood as he rose to his feet, eyes blurring from the pain. The Beast took advantage of Zephon's mistake and advanced, bellowing out a scream of rage. It was terrifying enough to send the bravest warriors packing. Zephon, light on his feet, dodged out of the way. There was no time to be sloppy. With the Beast turned around, the Squire raised his sword and sliced it against the Creature's back. Unfortunately, the attack didn't even come close to bringing it down; it only made the Beast angrier. The Creature knocked him back again with its ax, but this time, real damage was done. A loud crack was heard as a gasp escaped the crown. Sprawled out on the floor, Zephon felt his head.

Blood. Damnit.

Although his vision spiraled, he slowly got back up again, much to the chagrin of the Beast before him. "I'm not done yet," he yelled out as he charged. This time, he knew where the Beast would swing and excellent dodged the deadly ax. Zephon jumped and, with amazing precision, flipped over the Creature's head. The final blow was dealt.

The Beast fell to the floor, and Zephon raised his arm in victory. This victory was short-lived as he too soon collapsed under the weight of his injuries.

It had been a day since her love collapsed in the ring. The Knight had spent the entire night pacing outside the medical tent, hoping for some good news. Zephon had been outstanding in the arena, despite his injuries; she had taught him well. As she turned around and returned to the entrance of the tent, her name was called. The Knight practically leaped into the doctor's arms. "Is he okay? Did he survive?" she asked, shaking the doctor's shoulders.

"Yes, he's going to be fine. Just a few broken bones that we were able to set. He's sleeping now; please be quiet."

"Oh, thank the gods!" She pushed past the doctor in a hurry and entered the medical tent. It took a few moments, but she finally found her dear Zephon. He was almost unrecognizable under the wrappings, but his bright hair poked through, giving him away. Kneeling by his side, she took his hand as she looked over his body. The Knight let out a heavy sigh. That fight will change him. His left horn had been shattered beyond repair, and a few teeth had been knocked out, and that was only his face. There were heavy wrappings around his tail and right foot. I hope he'll be able to walk again. Luckily, his hands were left intact, and she held them close. Overcome with emotion, she let a single tear escape her eye. The Knight did her best to control herself, but the tears just kept coming. In her sadness, she failed to notice Zephon begin to stir. She only came back to her senses once she felt a hand on her cheek.

"I'm here, my love," Zephon whispered, bringing her close.

"Oh, Zephon, I'm so sorry. This never meant to happen." The two embraced, despite the looks from the nurses that roamed the tent.

"Will you escape with me? I want to be with you forever."

"Of course I will. Once you can walk again, we'll carve our own path."

Weeks passed before Zephon was on his feet again. Thanks to special magic, the healing process went by much quicker than expected. His horn would never be recovered, but at least he could walk.

It was a cool autumn night when the two finally set out, but it would be many months before they found a home.

One blustery day, they came upon a clearing deep in the woods. Strangely enough, the land seemed unaffected by the outside weather. There were flowers in bloom, and a beautiful stream flowed nearby. It was perfect. Soon enough, the couple had a pair of twins. One would dedicate her life to raising animals while the other would protect the glen with her life. The family was happy, but something was missing.

They wished to share their space with others who had the same mentality; ones who wished to leave their past behind. Once their children came of age, of which they had many, they would go out and find partners. Some would bring them back home while others traveled far and wide, spreading the kindness and bravery of their ancestors.
