NYRENIX
"Found you."
"Found you."

“I suppose you weren’t expecting a return letter. Yet, here you are.
“It is funny to me that, after so many years as your matriarch, you would think that I forgot your tone, your bloodlust, and–most importantly–your penmanship, but it seems your heads are as hollow as your threats. You claim you will find me, that you will punish me for my refusal to heed to your idea of ‘strength.’ You mock me for my gembond, and for what reason? Foolish pride and the misguided belief that you are stronger, better. “Idiots, both of you. “If you know where to find me and you are of the belief that Mother no longer favors me, that you have somehow managed to escape generations of ineptitude to claw your way out of the festering pit of mediocrity I left you in, I welcome you to show yourself in the flesh. Stop hiding behind cowardly words and your fledgling courier and let your teeth do the talking. Rest assured that if I had even a hint as to where you were cowering, I would not be sending you this damned parchment. Perhaps I should kill the messenger as a demonstration, but I want so badly for this letter to reach you, so I’ll spare this wretch for now. “And for the record, my beloved friend: I no longer go by Abezethibou. If you were really doing your research, you should have known. My name is Snap. May it serve as a clue as to what I’ll do to your spine when I get my claws on you.”
-- Letter to an unknown Plague dragon

"Hmm. I know that name. Or those names, I guess. I believe I’ve heard mother speak of them before? Which is odd, because she doesn’t like to talk about her past much. Fracture knows more than I do, I’m sure, but I’ve caught snippets here and there about a time before The Abandoned and, well, some religious tensions to the south. None of it sounded pretty and, needless to say, I think all of my siblings are happy we grew up in the aftermath.
"As for anything about them? That’s hard to say. Mother speaks sparingly of herself, let alone others. I think I’ve heard Helseth mention something about Nyrenix, though? About how she supposedly had two heads. Crazy, huh? I’ve never heard of a two-headed dragon, unless you want to count Emperors. Maybe it’s a metaphor." |

HISTORY
Not much is known of Nyrenix within The Abandoned, save for Snap, who is tight-lipped on who exactly this straggler lurking the canyon cliffs is. There are rumors, of course, and reports from the Ta’Angrel and Ald Hoef who have had little choice but to interact with the strange wanderer. Everything indicates that she is a dangerous foe, single-minded, and seems to have something against the ruling matriarch of Clan Elsewhere.
And why wouldn’t she? Nyrenix is, perhaps, the last dragon left from Snap’s first clan, one that was driven into the dust by a pestilence of their Mother’s own design. A clan that was, in the eyes of Nyrenix, was abandoned by a matriarch who was too weak to so defend them, too self-centered to suffer with them, and ultimately failed in the eyes of their goddess. Considering that she came out of hiding at the behest of Snap, long before the rest of her kind reared their heads in daylight, this has struck a personal chord. Nyrenix almost feels used, feels tricked, and cannot shake the feeling that the only way to make things right is through an act of terrible revenge. That said, Nyrenix is not quite as monstrous as many would believe. Angry, yes, but extremely loyal and devoted to the small, fledgling clan she has built around her in an effort to be the leader that Snap could not. Both heads work well together, she is generally harsh but fair, and she has a soft spot that many Plague dragons lack due to her own experiences with loss. As devout as she may claim to be, Nyrenix is a dragon who preaches “survival of the fittest” out of one mouth and “mercy and understanding” from the other. |
SHRINE
Nyrenix keeps no familiar, and instead prefers to instead carry a small cinnabar carving of the Plaguebringer amongst her belongings. She speaks to it as though speaking to the goddess herself, and spends much of her time conducting rituals and ceremonies in its honor in an effort to appease her Mother from afar. It is the one shred of her old life that she has in Dragonhome, and one of the major ways that she keeps in touch with her ferocious, ancient nature so far from the familiar comforts of the Wyrmwound and Rotrock Rim. It also seems to have some sentimental significance, though she’s hard pressed to tell anyone why.
In truth, the carving was actually made by Snap herself and given to Nyrenix when she first joined her old clan. It was customary for members to be given such a token so that they may commune with their Mother from great distances, and as a mark of Snap’s devotion and loyalty to her people and her goddess. Nyrenix clings to it in vain, trying to keep in touch with a past that is long gone and a version of Snap that no longer exists. She hopes, one day, things will go back to the way they were… or that she may leave this token on Snap’s grave in a final moment of triumph. |
