Vine

Vine was always hidden away. Everyone always said that's how he got his name, as if he had simply crawled away beneath the quiet shelter of the bushes and leaves the moment he hatched. They were wrong, of course. He wasn't always this shy. Once, he had been a quite loud child, laughing and playing with all the others. No one quite knew what caused the change in him. One moment, he was a little dragon positively brimming with life, and the next, well... He started getting quieter, at first. It was hard to even tell something was wrong, until he left. Ever since then Vine stayed safe under the low canopy, avoiding danger and other dragons at all costs. Well... Most other dragons. There was a certain one he didn't mind. Granted, he'd hardly ever seen her, and had only spoken to her on one occasion (his voice had sounded strange to him after years of disuse, and he had dashed away from her out of sheer embarrassment before he even knew what was happening) but she had seemed, well... Kind.
