Biography

Komainu keeps a taciturn vigil over Kage no Keiro, the Pathways of Shadows, both to welcome and to protect. Komainu is an Obelisk of great honour, she is a warrior and a defender. She is clad in armour made from wood and metal, decorated with paint and coloured rope, her helm is also decorated with a white lion's mane and golden horns, and her mask has sharp fangs painted black and eternally bared. Her creed prohibits her from using sharp weaponry, so instead she uses physical might to halt her opponent's march. She also intimidates her foes; it is said that her eyes gazing out from the shadows of her mask have pierced through attackers and sent them fleeing without a word or strike being made against them. The past of Komainu is shrouded in mystery, what is known is that she is an arcane dragon, she was not always an obelisk, and she may have been noble: as suggested by the black dyed fangs of her mask. During times where no travel into Kage no Sekai is expected -such as a different flight's holiday -Komainu can be found within the clan proper for short periods of time. During these times her familiar Ōmukade stays beside her, this imposing hundred legged centipede spirit pays little attention to other dragons unless they pose a threat to itself or to Komainu. When asked about it Komainu said that Ōmukade's many legs represent Komainu's endless and relentless march forward on the battlefield, for this reason her familiar was chosen. Also because Ōmukade is large and strong enough to defeat a guardian. Komainu designed the torii gates that lead to Kage no Sekai but was not hired to guard them, instead she elected to keep the paths safe. Nargacuga has made it clear that she is not to refuse entry without the visitor being a clear violent threat to a dragon in the clan. |
