Something was wrong with Creation.
“Stop moving,” Captcha muttered while perched on Creation’s shoulder. “I’m replacing plates on your neck. How am I supposed to do that while you’re looking around?” At the slight movement of Creation’s jaw starting to form a word, they tacked on, “Don’t answer that.”
Creation huffed in annoyance, reluctantly shutting up and staying still. It could hear Captcha complaining about how much easier it would be if they were Ridgeback sized, then lamenting about how weird it would be for a Spiral to be that big. The sound of footsteps and the subtle jingling of jewelry approached the garage, and Creation awaited the kind voice that it knew the sounds belonged to.
“Are you still working, dear?” Gigabyte poked her head into the garage. “I guess that answers my question. How is the upgrade going?”
“All good so far,” Captcha’s voice echoed from inside Creation’s neck. “I figured out how to fix the problem with the plates grinding against each other; I just have to put the new ones on. I’d say it’ll only take me another hour.”
“Perfect! And how are you today, Creation? Any software problems to report?”
“DON’T ANSWER THAT!!!!” Captcha exclaimed. “DO NOT ANSWER THAT. I WILL BE ELECTROCUTED. ALSO PLEASE TURN YOUR HEAD TO THE RIGHT, CREATION.”
Creation did what it was told, and Gigabyte moved to accommodate its new field of vision. She laughed quietly, but spoke loud enough for Captcha to hear. “So bossy! If they’re being mean to you, I’ll take over the hardware side of things. I’m not sure if you know this, but I’m actually the better engineer…”
“I can tell you’re joking, you know. You’re not very convincing.”
“I’m not joking. What gave you that impression? I would never joke at a time like this. What would have happened if Creation laughed?”
“I don’t have to worry about Creation laughing. You’re not funny.”
“Hmm, you seemed to find what I said earlier pretty funny, when you cut the wrong wire…”
“That w– I didn’t cut the wrong wire. I wanted our coffee maker to do that. I lied when I said I was upgrading it. And I was laughing at something else.”
“Oh, of course. The otherwise silent room was hilarious.”
“Stop distracting me!!!” Clearly having lost the battle of words, Captcha attempted to change the subject, but came up short.
