From the first time she opened her eyes, Solstice knew she wanted to roam.
She learned to fly faster than any of her siblings because while they play-fought, she snuck off to watch gulls swoop and chase each other in the sea spray. She could sit on the cliff for hours, and often did- and when she fell off the cliff trying to watch a sandpiper chick toddle after its mother, she spread her wings and soared over the beach until a gust of wind sent her tumbling into the shallow water.
Flying was freedom for her, plain and simple.
Aspen told stories about his adventures in the Southern Icefield, and Lovette (though sometimes distant) taught Solstice how to read, and her older sister taught her to fish and her younger brother showed her how to carve dolphins and seals out of whalebone and driftwood.
But neither of her siblings understood the tugging at her paws- only Aspen did.
