Carina was a powerful arcane mage; far exceeding the magical capabilities of even average harpy elementals, let alone harpies as a whole. This made her reckless in battle, and while some of these tendencies bled into her personal life, she did everything in her power to avoid it affecting her leadership style. She was well aware that decisions she made as matriarch affected everyone in her flock, and it helped her keep a level head.

For all her recklessness, it was impossible to say she wasn't kind at heart. She knew she couldn't please everyone, but she at least did her best to take any concerns raised with her to heart. She always tried to actually take part in roles 'below' hers (although she'd never have considered wording it that way); and was widely respected for being a frontline battlemage in any combat she took part in, which was the majority of battles she oversaw.

As the first to hatch out of her clutch, Carina was the heir to the throne. When her mother was killed by a dragon in battle, she had to take the throne long before she was ready; she'd only earned her mask a few months beforehand.

Near the end of her reign, Carina had a single child; a daughter she named Seryvan. She cut down on a few of the extra duties she'd taken on before becoming a mother in order to give her child more attention; but she couldn't bring herself to totally abandon her more hands on roles. Among the roles she kept was the role of a battlemage; before becoming queen, it was always her biggest passion.

The last battle she faced was an attempt to ward off a small clan of dragons that had wandered into flock borders. Carina's recklessness caused her to make the exact wrong move at the exact wrong time, and she ultimately faced the same fate her mother did.
