______ Nilsine always felt like he owed something to his clan, especially as its leader. It was his duty to protect his clanmates at all costs, yes, but he couldn't help but feel as though there was something more waiting out there for him. And quite frankly, it was a bit overwhelming. The need to be the perfect leader was so strong, and needless to say, it caused him to have quite a few issues with letting his guard down.

______ There was this wall that came up whenever he entered what his mate Fleet referred to as "clan leader mode." It was a time when he would have tunnel vision, deeming him unable to see anything but his duties to his clan. The desire to keep everyone under his protection out of harm was one of the more compelling urges. He would often lead groups of his dragons out to fight against the BeastClans as a team, but even then, he would throw himself out in front of a clanmate if they were in somewhat relative danger.

______ A number of his clanmates had a talk with him about the issue, telling telling him that he should think about himself more often.

______ "Really, Nilsine," they would say, understanding expressions on their faces, "we can honestly take care of ourselves! You have a mate, and the rest of the clan needs you more, so take care of yourself more often."




______ And Nilsine would sigh and reluctantly agree, but it never really stopped him. He always needed to go that extra mile in order to feel satisfied with his work for the day. Horrible guilt would plague his chest whenever he saw a clanmate injured, and he'd spend hours berating himself, asking why he hadn't been stronger.


______ It was Fleet that would calm him down.


______ "Oh, but you are strong, Nilsine! How would you manage to get all of these wonderful dragons to follow you if they didn't believe that you were strong enough to be their clan leader?"

______ While he appeared to be on the tough side, everyone knew, especially Fleet, that Nilsine was a softie. He would often overpraise his fellow dragons, although the compliments were often well received regardless. Nevertheless, Nilsine was told by friends that he had to learn to be more blunt with others. In addition, Fleet would often catch Nilsine playing games with the hatchlings, a huge goofy grin on his face as they played.

______ "Hey!" One of the new hatchlings whined playfully. "Give our ball back!"

______ "You gotta catch me first!" Nilsine grinned in return, his words teasing, before flapping his wings and launching himself into the air. Meanwhile, from below, Fleet would chuckle at her mates uncharacteristic behavior before continuing to watch in utter amusement.

______ Later on, she had gotten a good laugh when she had asked Nilsine about the ball game.
______ He had defended himself so hard, and Fleet had only laughed.

______ "Well, it helps the hatchlings learn how to fly properly, alright?"
