Biography

I roamed around my family's tree looking up at the starry sky. I loved to just sit out here and observe everything, from the way the grass bellowed in the wind to how the books sounded when you turned the page. I spent every waking moment observing or studying anything I could find. One night when I heard there was going to be a meteor shower on the next night, I was elated.

“I need to prepare my telescope.” I said to my mother, Serenity

“No, you don’t.” She said harshly looking down at me. “The meteor shower will be too bright and the magic inside it would be too strong for a child to look at.”

I looked down in disappointment but my head was reeling with ideas on ways to still see the meteor shower. When the next night had come I snuck outside and set up my telescope. When the meteor shower started I looked through the telescope and prepared to take notes.

When I looked through the telescope my eyes started to burn with the light of the meteors. I reared back from the telescope and screamed “MY EYES!”

I heard my parents' wing beats coming towards me and then their voices soothing me. They took me in their wings for a moment until I had decided to open my eyes again.

I opened them hesitantly, only the slightest peek. I hurriedly shut my eyes again in fear they would be burned. That glimpse that I caught was like a world I had never seen before. It was new and clear.

When I finally had enough courage to open them fully I saw a world like no other. Colors were crisp and sharp and the dark was no longer a problem. I looked up at my parents' faces and saw only complete shock written across their faces.

Just when I had started to look up my head started to swirl with images of past, present, and future. The colors became too bright and the darkness covered my whole vision. I covered my eyes and wondered if they were still burned from the light

The last thing I heard before I passed out was my mother saying, “There… Primal.”

A purple dragon walked up to me with a curious expression on his face.

“Why do you always wear a cover over your eyes?” He asked with genuine curiosity.

“A freak accident where my eyes were turned primal. I have to cover them otherwise I pass out from a stimulation overload.” I said, having answered this question many times before. His face still held a look of confusion and curiosity so I decided to elaborate further. “Primal eyes allow the person to see everything in perfect clearness. For me colors and light are sharp against my eyes.”

He continued to stare at me with the same expression but after a few seconds he shook his head and his expression turned a bit more sympathetic.

“It must be hard living with your eyes always covered. How do you live like that?” His face looked sincere and not in a joking sort of way but instead a more genuine way. I was at first taken aback at how nice he was being but recovered from the initial shock before I answered his question.

“At first it was hard to keep a cover over my face at all times but as the years blended on I eventually got used to the feeling of it.” I explained to him.

“Do you ever take it off?” He asked.

“Yes, but I have to close my eyes before I take them off and I can't open them until I put them back on again.” I responded. I realize that this should be no way to live but this was how I had to and I would live with it.

At this point it was time for both of us to get back to our classes. I flew off wondering if I would ever see him again. The next day the same purple dragon came up to me but this time he was wearing a cover over his eyes.

“Why are you wearing a cover over your eyes?” I asked. His face melted into a smile.

“To see what it was like to live with a cover over my eyes.” He said, still smiling.

“Why would you do that?” I asked.

“As I said before, to see what it's like with a cover over my eyes.” He smiled even more then spoke again. “Also because I like you.”
