Nosing her way out of the egg, she took her first breath of air. Big, pink wings pumped above her. The skin strained to keep the dragon in the air. The green, chitin-dressed Guardian paid her no mind, focused on watching where he was going among the air traffic of other dragons. Couriers whizzed by, dogfights happened between warring clans, but he didn’t care. The Guardian had a delivery. The little Nocturne shivered. It was cold at this height. She squirmed out of the bag her egg was in and pressed against the Guardian’s warm hide. Slowing to a hover, the big dragon turned to observe the hatchling that had popped out in the midst of its delivery. It was dangerous for a little one to be out like this, he knew. He tenderly reached a great arm backwards, and held her to his side as he moved on, a little slower. Cuddled in his giant hand, the hatchling fell asleep. The bigger dragon flew awkwardly, with an arm pressed to his side, but he didn’t mind. The temperature increased and the Guardian’s orientation changed in the air. He was landing. The brown rocks and ancient boulders trembled as he set himself on the ground, then carefully put down the hatchling napping in his palm. He nudged the child onto his large head to rest. Walking a ways, the hatchling was delivered safely, after waking up to a confused satyr which held her.
