you lay here in a bed of your own making, shackled down to the ground and unable to fly. your wings drag in the dust and filth that has built up over the years sits on your skin. you do not care.
you hear that food is meant to taste like sawdust in this state, that the world loses its colour. that is not the case for you. things still taste the same to you. look the same to you. but gone are thoughts of wanting. you do not care to eat something delicious when the thought of food makes you sick. you do not care to look for breathtaking scenery when the thought of going outside makes you weary to the bones. these things do not matter. instead, the itching of thorns on your skin are a testament of its inescapable tightness, the aching of your body a herald to the end of times.
what once suffocated you as thoughts of duty now weighs you down as uselessness. failure after failure rejection after rejection disaster after disaster make you numb and nothing matters enough to lift this rut. it's all you can do to put on a smile, push the chains that shackle you to the ground behind you and cover the unacceptable filth that sits on your skin with more acceptable filth, when your insides wail with the sheer emptiness carving it out until you're leaking with it but it's ok, because all you have to do is laugh when everyone laughs and make weird comments and sit in awkward silences until all your connections break and they can leave you behind without pause because all you ever want now is to be left alone to await fate alone to leave this world alone so no one has to be weighed down by the burden that you've baked and burnt into your essence--
