basic info:
- he/him
- one of very few fire-aligned gaolers, for obvious reasons
- gets a lot of ridicule from more traditionally aligned gaolers, despite his useful

main arc:
- was assigned to train rahndiri in heat resistance
- he was not informed of her fatal mission until months later, by mere chance
- not currently on a revenge quest, but has since defected from the gaoler orders in xxorder to become a vigilante shade-hunter
jailbreak arc:
- happens upon nim while off being a vigilante; he's entirely aware of what she is, but
xxtakes pity on her
- don't misunderstand, he still totally tries to kill her, but it's not a vengeance
xxthing, it's a 'if it's shaded, it's an unholy blight on the face of the earth and must
xxdie' thing
- probably stops trying to kill nim eventually
- he's basically matthias helvar now that i think about it
- ...crap
- plays a key part in the escape from the fortress of ends
