I. A History of Conflict ━━━━━
____So I've quickly discovered that Yuyan is Noveland's most benevolent ruler. As you may have guessed from my wording, there is more than one ruler; there is actually a total of two. However, Yuyan quickly became my favourite, and I have since discovered I'm not the only one of this opinion. In fact, she is widely regarded as the true ruler of this place. Why? Well, to answer that we'll have to take a dive into Noveland politics and a centuries-old, bitter struggle for power between two factions. The first faction is comprised of Noveland's oldest family, the Elsgards, and their supporters. The House of Elsgard, and primarily its Head at the time, Rhydian, founded the Clan and was the main contributor in the building of the castle. Hence, for a long time it held the most authority and its members claimed the highest positions of power. That all changed with the rise of the House of Forsythe, a family of former insignificance. At the time, Noveland's governance was a mess; the ruler (who shall not be named but was Elsgardian, of course) was a tyrant and his councillors were more corrupt than a barrel of last year's apples. Meanwhile, the ordinary townsfolk were being squashed by their ruler's countless demands and then terrorised by his unchallenged cruelty when those demands weren't fulfilled to his satisfaction. Hence, when one dragon decided to rebel, he found many eager supporters. That dragon was Lennox Forsythe, a common fisherdragon who, after protesting when condemned to exile because he "wasn't fishing fast enough", suddenly found himself the leader of an uprising that was snowballing. To sum up the next sequence of events: ruler was booted and revolutionary initiated a spring cleaning of the old court. After he'd helped bring about massive, but much-needed, change, however, Lennox surprisingly turned down the offer to be Noveland's next tyrant - ahem - ruler. Instead, he decided to balance out the most powerful position in an attempt to curb future dictators. He did this by instating another ruler; while the Elsgards were allowed to remain hereditary rulers (although the now ex-ruler from House Elsgard had been very unpopular, the House in general was still powerful and favoured), there would be another ruler who would be appointed by election and remain for a four-year term. The first non-Elsgardian ruler was Elowen Forsythe, Lennox's daughter. Anyway, the Forsythes and their supporters comprise the second faction. In a rather ironic twist of history, the current Elsgardian ruler, Yuyan, is kind and fair, while the current non-Elsgardian ruler, Avarius Glyndon, is a volatile, unhinged despot. Furthermore, the castle might be sinking and there may be a murderer amongst us. More on that later.
