Shum [Шум]: literally “noise”
In the context of the song, “Shum” is a pagan spring deity. The original folk song, A v nashoho shuma [А в нашого шума] is sung while playing a spring game in which participants braid themselves together and apart again. The version of the song Go_A presented at Eurovision 2021 actually incorporates some lyrics from this and two other songs: Vesyanochka-panyanochka, de zh ty zymuvala [Весяночка-паняночка, де ж ти зимувала] and Vesyanochka-panyanochka.
(Now, this is where I run out of information: I’m not sure if these are regional variants of the same song, or if they’re simply coincidentally similar. If you happen to know enough to enlighten me, I’d absolutely love to hear the answer!)
