They loved to learn. Sure, there were plenty of different subjects that they could learn from, or about, or even general genres. Some could learn about plants, or animals, take Critter Studies or Familiarizing Yourself with Familiars at the Observatory, if they wanted. Some could travel the world over, or join Beast Clans and learn about their politics. No matter what, there were plenty of subjects for an Arcane dragon to focus on that would give them a beneficial focus later in life. For one particular dragon who had been born in Arcane, the focus was on genetic studies. In fact, they wanted to see just what made dragons different from each other. If hatchlings were born together, raised from the same clutch, why did they come out so different? Why was there such a difference in their likes and dislikes? How was it that other dragons could so easily tell them apart, and was there a way to keep them from making that differentiation? In other words, could they do the best genetic change ever, and turn themselves *into* that other dragon? It started out as a simple desire to see how far their studies had taken them. Could all of their hard work and efforts, all of the restless night practicing, all of the countless notes and attempts really come together to make their dream come true? Could they actually do the impossible, the greatest genetic change ever seen? They wouldn't know until they tried. |

There was one thing that could be said about Shadow dragons.
They loved to play tricks. Sure, there were plenty of different tricks that they could choose from, or even general genres. Some could play tricks like the classic whoopee cushion, or the "Pick a Card" trick, or even learn the darker magics from the heart of the Tangled Wood, if they wanted. Some could travel the world over, or join perfectly normal clans and learn about what made them laugh. No matter what, there were plenty of tricks for a Shadow dragon to focus on that would give them a beneficial outlet later in life. For one particular dragon who had been born of Shadow, the focus was on illusion magic. Not that she actually was a princess in more than just name. Her parents were part of a mighty lair in Wispwillow Grove, her family could trace themselves back to the first dragons shaped by the gods, and between that status and pedigree she should have been a real princess, but that was not how the world worked. Regardless, Princess read enough stories to understand how royalty should act, what they should believe in, and decided that she would at least act like royalty, even without the crown. Her parents thought it was adorable that she always made sure her familiars were well fed and groomed before her, and praised her on her diligence over making sure her "subjects" were taken care of before her. Of course, Princess knew that any good ruler understood that those below them in power were the ones they had to serve, and so she would make sure her "people" had food before her, were warm and dry and cared for before her. In fact, she was well on track to becoming a great role model and possibly even landing a higher position in the home clan. Then The Incident happened. |
