Christmas Bane project, sister to Jingle



SSE 2022



As you gaze out at the night sky, the sound of faint wingbeats grows stronger with each passing minute. Soon the shadow of a Banescale appeared, its silhouette glowing due to its partially white scales.



With a hard thud, the Banescale stands before you, her wings outstretched in a majestic pose before she pulls them to her sides.

"Let's see here. Gotta remember how this goes..." she muttered quietly to herself. "Hello, my name is Glockenspiel. I'm here from the Secret Santa Exchange to give you an important message," which cued the Banescale to lift a wing and reveal a cloth bag filled with scrolls. After rummaging a moment through the bag with her snout, she draws out a scroll with your name inscribed on a tag tied to the ribbon that kept the paper rolled up.

Once you take the scroll, she says, "Please read the guidelines on this scroll carefully. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. As your elf, I will help you the best I can."

With a huge and powerful flap of her wings, Glockenspiel took the skies and flew off. When you open the scroll, the ribbon burns away in soft glittering embers. The parchment reads as follows:

When received a gift from a user

After dropping off the letters, Glockenspiel thankfully walked into her cave, ready to plop into her nest of coals. Just after she blew her fiery breath onto the nest to warm it, her brother popped his head in.

"Salutations, sis!" Jingle exclaimed, "How did it go?" As Glockenspiel eased her tired limbs into the nest, she wearily replied, "All letters have been delivered. Little rough in the skies near the shifting expanse - some fierce lightning storms. But now, it's time to rest."

But she noticed her brother's excited expression, "What is it?"

"Special delivery! One of the clans you visited dropped off a gift for you," and he deposited a wrapped package in front of her. Eyeing it quizzically, Glockenspiel read the note and then opened the package. She was greeted with insects and began to smile.

"Eat up, sis. You'll need the energy for when we both deliver gifts," and with a wink, Jingle left her cave.

"Thank you," Glockenspiel whispered, and she ate the insects. With a full stomach and a warm nest, the banescale gratefully began to drift to sleep, dreaming of the holidays and the deliveries to come...

SSE 2022 Delivery

Dragons everywhere were buzzing with excitement this season, sharing goodwill and kindness (and gifts too!). But, when all seemed quiet at night, with snow lightly falling and twinkling like stars in the sky, there were two dragons busy continuing the tradition of delivering gifts...

"Hey, sis, this is so much easier working together like this! Can we do this every year?"

"Yeah, yeah, just keep focusing on where we're flying...aha! here we are! Let's start our descent."

The pair of Banescales adjusted their trajectory with some strong wing beats and then began to glide to the ground.

"Not too fast, brother! We don't want any of the gifts to drop!"

"I'm just so excited to get these delivered..."

After gently lowering their bulk of gifts, they settled on the ground. The sister, Glockenspiel, spoke first, "Greetings! We're here to -"

Jingle quickly interrupted her, "deliver your gifts! We hope that they bring a smile to your face and warmth in your heart! Oh, err, sorry sis..." The Banescale lowered his head with embarrassment.

Glockenspiel gave him a small glare and then shook her head, deciding it wasn't worth it to scold her brother. After all, this is a season of kindness. "Yes, we're here to deliver gifts from your Santa," she said.

Once all the gifts were laid out in front of you, the two Banescales gave a bright smile. Jingle said, "We're off to deliver more gifts. We wish you happiness, health, and joy this season! Maybe we will see you again next year!"

And with strong wing beats, they took the sky, grabbed their load of remaining gifts, and flew off into the night.
