Diamond

"C'mon, I dare you!" said one hatchling to another. "But I don't want to." replied the other, a snowy colored male Coatl "My mother says I'm not s'posed to leave the nesting grounds yet.." He started to walk away, but his fellow hatchling jumped in front of him, blocking the Coatl's path. "You're just a scaredy dragon!" they taunted. "I am not! Fine! I'll go get one of those dumb coconuts from the tallest palm tree in the clan's territory, you just wait!" He stalked off in a huff, and while the Guardian in charge of the hatchlings was distracted, the little hatchling scampered off down the beach to a copse of tropical trees swaying in the breeze. He sat down at the base of the tallest one and considered the best way to get to the top. Hmm... I can't fly very well yet, so I guess climbing will have to do, he thought to himself before starting up the trunk. His small paws easily found claw-holds in the rough bark, and he shimmied higher and higher until he could just barely reach the lowest-hanging fruit. Stretching out a forelimb, the little Coatl leaned over and managed to grasp a coconut... Suddenly he felt a rush of wind and a falling sensation followed by a thump as he landed on the hard-packed sand. To this day Diamond still has a mild fear of heights, but he sure showed that other hatchling!
