they said that tian had tasted the sun itself. that he'd flown higher than any dragon had before--higher than any wind dragon, even--just enough to lap at the rays. to stain his teeth and horns and scales with gliitering, blinding sunshine. as if his veins had turned to gold. where he stepped the plants and dirt remembered what sunshine was, even under the tangled murk of the shadow territories. they said it was the sun, not some facismile, not the lightweaver or any of her gaudy children, that he had tasted. and he wanted the rest of the shadow flight to taste the same. they said he was blessed by their gloaming mother herself with the sharp eyes and strong arms to pull back the bow of deliverance, pierce the sun, and swallow it as it fell to plunge all of sorneith into darkness. they said to see him shoot was like gazing at the deities themselves. |
