Despite the clan's attempt to minimize it, there's always some sort of plant waste. At first it didn't bug her, she would throw it away with everything else, but they were celebrating a festival with other mini clans and their large dragon landlords, and there was just... piles of it. So she tried to make something out of it. Everyone suggested basket weaving, but there's really only so many baskets you can make before you make too much, so she tried an alternate route.

After many, many, many failed attempts, she made paper. Dye had come first, just add some water, squish a plant to make a paste, add more water, boom dye, but she learned that if you flattened the paste and press all the water out of it, you made something durable, but absorbs the ink, and you could take it with you everywhere. It would mean her mother wouldn't need to write on flat stones out and around the fields anymore, or draw in the dirt or carve into stone, now her, and other dragons, could write on paper sewn together and carry it with them.

They knew how to count, they had tallies for numbers but now they could write anything!! She just... had to create an alphabet first.
