Stand my child tall and proud…
The whispers of mischievous winds through ancient boughs. Gnarled trunks which peel like a heady parchment holding centuries of forest lore yet told. This reaching forest is home to a great clan of warriors. But it is not these warriors that sing generations to sleep with crisp breezes and autumn hues. It is those benevolent spirits of the wood, Skógdrífa, and her mate, Halldrífr. Wind and earth, life and death, mother and father, brother and sister, love and loss, friend and foe. They walk in many forms and guide those lost to us. It is said that their many jubilant children are the very trees of inn Rauðviður, all cloaked in the blazing glory of rich autumn. To those perceptive souls they may appear with their snow-flecked bodies and feathery wings the hue of priceless garnets. Their forms are masked in an eternal wind of wandering leaves. Their laughs and voices, though faint, will sing on and tell you many tales. Fear not the forest, for those barked sentinels shall guide you. Fear not the forest, for it welcomes you home.
