Biography
Edith is an animated statue, brought to life by the Harpies who used to live in Vitrocourt. They were made with the purpose of protecting the city’s sanctity, a task which has changed with the times. Edith is able to stand incredibly still for hours at a time, not moving an inch, even at the slightest provocation.
Of their two heads, Edith’s rightmost head is the most active, while their leftmost head mostly lies dormant. The rightmost Edith is a serious individual, not willing to waste time with ambling conversation. They don’t have a strong grasp on humor, but some dragons have been trying to teach it to them. It hasn’t been going well. One of them has been punched.
The leftmost Edith is a curious anomaly, if anything. Most of the time, they stay in the exact same position, staring vacantly forward. However, very rarely, they speak. What comes out of their mouth is really just a garble, and you’d be forgiven for imagining it as aimless word association. However, there’s been common themes between what they’ve said so far: always speaking about incoming disaster, and repeating the same set of numbers at the end of their speeches.
In the ancient times, protecting the city meant patrolling around and guarding the homes of the upper class. Like Cerberus before the gates of the Underworld, they would place themselves before mansions and monasteries, a clear sign that these homes were protected. Although many were intimidated by their presence, those who refused to relent received grievous wounds from Edith’s stone claws.
However, after the abandonment of Vitrocourt, Edith became something of a scarecrow for those same houses. As the Dustcarve Dig opened up the city to looters and scheming adventurers, Edith took a new approach to protecting the city. They took back passages as compared to the open streets, moving secretly from house to house. In this way, they became something to fear sneaking up behind you, which deterred the more cowardly dragons of Sorineth.
With the arrival of Zenobia and her ilk, though, Edith is at a loss. These dragons respect the sanctity of the city, but they are not who Edith was made to protect. But then, who was Edith made to protect? The city, or only the elite…
