NOTES:
- Anathema's prize treasure. They consider him to be indescribably beautiful, and spare no expense protecting and lavishing him.
- In a past life, Novori was an orphan who relied on petty thievery to survive. His parents had just enough money to bring him to the Wharf in the hopes of giving him a better future, but had to return to the Sunbeam Ruins, leaving him to fend for himself. He spent the majority of his childhood getting in and out of trouble, stealing whatever he could to survive, and growing ever-deeper in debt in an attempt to keep a roof over his head.
- Eventually, as an adult, his debtors came to collect their due, and he knew he couldn't pay. He'd engaged with the Wharf's underworld enough to know vaguely that there were powers there that could protect him. Anathema, who'd been keeping an eye on him up until then, orchestrated a clever little scheme that got him to meet them in person.
- The two struck a deal: Anathema would provide protection from debt to Novori, and in return, Novori would live with Anathema and provide them services until his debt was paid off in full. Unbeknownst to him, Anathema never planned to release him.
- Anathema stayed true to their word, and was quick to pay off all of Novori's debts. However, they never informed Novori of this, and strung him along until it was too late for him to ever leave.
- As Novori continued to live under Anathema's roof, his body changed. A tiny amount of modified assimilation fluid in his food every day led him to reach a sort of half-assimilated state. Anathema's own 'improvements' upon his form included chitinous growths, long antennae, transparent insectoid wings, mandibles, and so on. His transformation has since stopped, having reached a point Anathema considered perfect.
- The physical changes are extensive enough that, to venture out into public, Novori must wear full-body coverings. This happens rarely, as Anathema is highly possessive of him, and never lets him travel away from their presence without a guard.
- The partial assimilation has also given Novori a latent connection to the hivemind. It's not a proper connection, and he can't be controlled through it, but he can pick up on the presence of nearby drones, and he can engage in simple telepathic communications with nearby consciousnesses and similarly intelligent hive creatures.
- He and Anathema are slowly coming to an amicable arrangement. Novori isn't thrilled about every aspect of his new life, but he enjoys the richness and luxury that surrounds him; it was something he never had as a child, and so he craves it dearly. Never having to worry about his next meal or shelter has taken a great deal of stress off his mind.
- Unlike the rest of Anathema's living trophies, Anathema doesn't plan on fully assimilating Novori. Their mind continues to grow, adapt, and change, and they have decided for unknown reasons that they prefer Novori when he can think for himself.
