Astral was a young scientist in Cybordine Industries. She would spend everyday repeating the same schedule: wake up, mind-meld prisoners, experiment and go to bed. She never questioned or thought about her past memories……well….because she couldn’t remember them. As her days as a scientist grew, the more she started to question why she couldn’t remember her past. She assumed she had dementia at a young age or that she was so tired from working all the time she forgot her past. About 9 months after having the same question play in her mind over and over, it was finally revealed……

Astral had a late shift of mind melding and finally finished it off. As she headed back to her room, she overheard a few dragons talking. Judging by the voices, she assumed it was Caisson talking with somebody who’s voice she could not identify. Being the nosy dragon she is, Astral ear dropped the conversation but was only able to make out a few words: “is the mind melding working?**Astral still doesn’t know** **her past memories are gone**.” It only took those three sentences to understand the truth. She doesn’t have dementia. She was mind melded. She had to leave now. Astral immediately ran to her room. She grabbed a small bag, shoved enough food in it to last her a couple of days and bolted to the nearest exit. Before she knew it, she was flying away from the only place she knew…..perhaps she did know more of Sornieth before she was mind melded. Astral spotted a nearby bamboo forest on the ground and decided to land there for the night and get some rest. The bamboo would provide hidden shelter. As Astral curled down to sleep she made three goals: to find out her past, to never associate with Caisson again and to NEVER tell anybody about being mind melded….

Part 2:

Astral gloomily searched the bamboo forest for food. It had weeks since her escape from Cybordine and the past few days have been rough for her. In order to stay hidden, she had no choice but to stay in the forest. As the days grew longer, finding food was getting more difficult in a forest that had little prey.

“What should I do about her?”

Astral freezes in her talon steps to the sound of a dragon mumbling quietly. It could be one of Caisson’s guards.

“Shush! You made her hear you!” replies a higher feminine voice.

“Well there goes our plan, Faith. Let’s just show ourselves. She looks harmless.”

Astral was ready to run away as soon as those dragons showed themselves, but when she saw their appearances she was flooded with relief. The dragons that stood before her were a black and blue coloured Mirror Dragon that was handsome but clumsy; and a grouchy looking female Snapper that appeared to have the color of burnt sand streaking her body. Both appeared to be the same age as her. They were no guards of Caisson. They were just regular dragons.

“Who are you?” demanded Astral, attempting to put on her fear-me-face,

“I appreciate your attempt to look scary but it is failing horribly, mystery dragon,” the handsome Mirror Dragon responded in a smirk,

“Enough humor. We will not tell you who we are until we can trust you,” the Snapper growled harshly,

“I am Astral. I have recently ran away from Cybordine Industries and-“

“Did you say Cybordine Industries?!” the Mirror Dragon exclaimed in wide eyes,

“Uh- yes?”

The two strangers exchanged shocked looks with one another for an unusually long time until the Snapper spoke up.

“We have a difficult history with them….” the female Snapper replied, “I suppose you are trustworthy, considering you ran away from our sworn enemies. I am Faith and this annoying lizard is Khomsan,”

“How long have you been on your own out here?” Khomsan asked, completely ignoring Faith’s comment about him,”

“About a few weeks,” Astral responded in a shrug,

“Yikes!! You must be starving. No dragon who hunts alone out here can even survive a month,” Khomsan remarked, “Hey! I just got an idea! Maybe you can join Faith and I in our camp. We could help you survive out here,” Khomsan shot Faith a pleading look,

“Ugh. Fine….but don’t make me regret what I chose!” Faith stated,

Khomsan exclaimed happily and hugged Faith tightly,

“Welcome to the gang! Let’s head to the camp,”

Khomsan took Astral’s talon and beckoned her to follow. For the first time since her escape, Astral felt content with these new dragons around her. She allowed herself to follow Khomsan to her new life.
