There was nothing else to the way she functioned: all she needed was an instruction. All she needed was permission. All she needed, perhaps, was a command.
She functioned like a puppet with no identity of her own, stalking the shadows of people she didn’t know and slitting the throats of strangers she’d never met. But some way or another they had upset the Queen, and that alone was enough for her.
She didn’t stop to consider her purpose. She didn’t need one, like she didn’t need a name. Just a whisper of ‘The Rose Snake’ was enough to make any wise dragon’s blood run cold.
