Reykur, an amateur exorcist, has been roaming the lands for a few months, trying to prove himself to the guild. He knows better than to try and tackle major hauntings by himself, but he's able to exorcise minor ghosts, half-faded away already. As he gains more confidence in his abilities, he encounters Ispareniya. After seeing him cleanse a lair of ghostly mice, she pleads with him to help her with her own haunting. Unsure of his ability but unable to turn her down, Reykur agrees to try.

It quickly turns out that he does not have what it takes. As the spirits lurking around her become irate with his efforts, he knows that he needs to seek help. He has heard, of late, that one of the younger exorcists he so admires has settled in the Starfall Isles. Too prideful to go back to his guild without trying all other options first, Reykur seeks Soheila out.

His journey with Ispareniya is a long one, and while her ghosts loathe him terribly, she herself is grateful for his promises of assistance. The longer they spend together, the more Reykur becomes convinced that this sweet dragon deserves her freedom.
