Biography
Betelgeuse
Betelgeuse's entire countenance screams "threat". He uses his large size and flashy, irregularly patterned coat to repel others away from him, immensely preferring to be alone than having to deal with the inane chatter that comes from associating himself with others. His aversion to social interaction earns him no favours among the complex sociopolitical climes that inhabit the ranks of Sanitatem, and soon his adversarial behaviour has him openly disliked by many of his compatriots.
This, however, suits him, and soon Betelgeuse begins to play up his rankling personality, openly insulting his conversational partners and otherwise disregarding them entirely and mocking their intelligence, their appearance, or any other insecurity that he can so as to inflict the most pain. Now thoroughly alone, Betelgeuse is free to engage in his studies, and as suits such a rude, intimidating dragon, his interest soon turns to the morbid and disgusting.
Often smelling like decomposition and formaldehyde, when not sequestered in his own corner of the Academic Quarter of Sanitatem, Betelgeuse can be found dragging the bodies of animals and sometimes other dragons that are left behind as casualties of clan wars, into his dwelling. There he learns from their inner workings, how they function and how different maladies cause their bodies to give out under them before their due time.
It is this morbid curiosity that draws Betelgeuse to both Kalma and Bellatrix. Kalma is a mmedical curiosity beyond any that have ever inhabited Sanitatem and Betelgeuse privately thinks, that ever will inhabit the clan. With his blackened paws often poking at the Wildclaw's wounds, Betelgeuse is not gentle and nor does he sugarcoat his words, and Kalma appreciates his acrid personality, and the two form an odd friendship.
As for Bellatrix, she is a pampered Coatl with little bearing as to how to world functions below her previous station as a noble of her clan, simply concerned with magical education and maintaining her status as a lady of high society. Betelegeuse's vulgarity simultaneously titilates and terrifies her, not used to dealing with such a brazen boor. However, she sidles up to him and Betelgeuse shoos her away in no short order, not willing to deal with a pampered princess simpering over him, whilst being disgusted with everything he does.
Except... Bellatrix is not disgusted. Not by the guts and gore, not by Betelgeuse's nastiness and his insults that border on verbal abuse. If anything, it all excites her, and Betelgeuse watches in bewildered astonishment as Bellatrix slowly falls in love with him. So certain of his heart being a blackened, withered thing, shriveled in his chest from neglect, Betelgeuse is certain he has fallen sick when he feels a warmth in his breast around the other Coatl, and it is only when Bellatrix cheerfully proclaims that what he feels is love, not an illness, that Betelgeuse accepts that just perhaps, he may need companionship. But only for this one exception.
