Biography
You come across a small Fae dragon with shimmering blue scales, though they look faded - worn and smooth - from years of exploring. He informs you, with a high-pitched but comforting voice, that his name is Beltran, and begins ruminating aloud about some long-lost memory. Reaching in to one of his many satchels, he offers you a root beer barrel. He is a messenger dragon with great wisdom from travelling throughout Sornieth. Though the years have slowed him down and he has retired from his position, he still loves to travel through his memories by telling long stories to all those who meet him.
...
Beltran shifts slightly, his scales catching the light as he prepares to weave a tale from his vast tapestry of memories. His voice, soft yet clear, fills the space around you as if you're about to embark on a journey through time.
"Long ago," Beltran begins, his eyes glinting with the reflection of unseen worlds, "in the heart of the Viridian Labyrinth, where the trees whisper secrets to those who dare listen, I found myself on a quest unlike any other. I was younger then, my scales more vibrant, reflecting the myriad greens of the forest canopy. My mission was to deliver a message of peace from the Arcanist to the Gladekeeper, a delicate task given the tense relations of the time."
He pauses, lost momentarily in the recollection. "The labyrinth was alive, you see, with more than just flora and fauna. Magic pulsed through its veins, and creatures of legend called it home. I had to navigate not just the physical paths, which twisted and turned on themselves like the coils of a sleeping dragon, but also the more ethereal trails, guided by intuition and the whispers of the forest itself."
"As I ventured deeper, I came across a clearing bathed in moonlight, a rare sight given the dense canopy. And there, in the center of this natural cathedral, stood a creature I had heard of only in the eldest of tales—a Guardian of the Glade, its form both fearsome and magnificent, its eyes holding the depth of the forest's wisdom."
"The Guardian challenged me, questioning my purpose and resolve. I spoke of my mission, my voice steady though my heart raced like a river in spring. To my surprise, the creature relented, offering me safe passage and a gift—a feather imbued with the essence of the forest, a symbol of trust and protection."
"With the Guardian's blessing, I reached my destination, delivering the message that would sow the seeds of a fragile peace. But the true gift of that journey was the wisdom imparted by the Guardian—a reminder that strength lies not in power or might, but in understanding and harmony with the world around us."
Beltran's story ends as softly as it began, leaving a silence filled with the echo of his words. "That journey," he concludes with a wistful sigh, "taught me the true essence of my travels. It's not the destinations we reach, but the lessons we learn and the connections we forge along the way."
Listening to Beltran, you feel a sense of wonder, as if you've glimpsed a part of the vast, intricate web of stories and secrets that make up the world of Sornieth.
