Mistletoe / Healer
A strong person isn't someone who never cries, it's one who sheds tears and then gets back up and keeps fighting.

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

The sky was tinted with a swirl of light blues and whites, the puffy clouds jumping around in the beautiful painting that the day created for all to see. It was a wonderful day today, possibly full of events for every dragon and creature to discover and laugh upon.

All except for one dragon, who had been training hard since her previous apprentices still had no luck becoming what she has taught them for years. Her thoughts ached with a lack of confidence that grew from a failure that constantly bugged her. Like everyone else who has experienced the false plague that she is succumbed with; she wanted to escape it, not fight it.

The Pearlcatcher was in deep focus through her period of practice, her talons poking the bow as they hugged around the weapon tightly. She did not pay attention to the world that squeaked and giggled around her; her people had their own schedule today, and hers was completely separate from that. She knew she had to dedicate her time towards getting better. Better than the monster that tried to eat her up; it was her failure. Finally letting go of the sharpened arrow after swinging the string back, the stick seemed to have a merely perfect form as it swiftly struck the wooden target that the Pearlcatcher carved herself. It was a graceful bullseye.

However, instead of celebrating, the female grunted with agitation. She truly worried if she would be able to pass her apprentices towards what they wanted, but they just didn’t seem ready enough, and neither did her. She dropped the bow carelessly, drawing out a heavy sigh that signaled for a break. Walking towards the target that was jabbed deeply from the arrow that had attacked it, her feet dragged across the dry grass, which tickled the bottoms of them.

Slightly standing up, the Pearlcatcher reached for the arrow, perhaps to put the painted wood out of its screaming agony, but her hand flew backwards with a sudden flinch. Lifting her head towards the source of the frightening cause, her senses came back to the world; her pupils shook with horror, for she heard a cry for help. However, this was different from the rest, for it was young and very desperate.

At an instinct, she ditched the arrow for itself, hopping into a rushing sprint of action. She merely tripped twice on the way, but she still would have continued regardless. She ran towards the ruckus that grew louder and louder, knowing that it was probably smarter to stay on ground by this point; flying would do her no good. The Pearlcatcher caught up to the brutal scene, noticing three things:

One, there was a helpless dragon, who did not fight back. They were harmfully scarred with bruises and cuts that must have burned painfully. Two, there were dragon hunters. Men, who were careless to the idea of a creature’s life, holding weapons and pitchforks for offensive reasoning. Three, that dragon was a Pearlcatcher. That Pearlcatcher had no pearl.

The female’s heart sank, then gradually pumped with blood that itched for justice. This was not fair, nor was it right. She roared with a tone that would scare several cave bears, which did not appeal to the men, for they had instantly run away with fright. Giving a huff of satisfaction, she turned to the helpless dragon, lowering her head with sweet intention. “Are you alright?” She spoke, with a hushed voice. Scared, the trembling Pearlcatcher scooted a few steps away, nervous and unsure of the female’s intention. This made her frown, and mumble. “I’m not going to hurt you, dear. I promise.”

After their delicate encounter, the female used her healing abilities from her shining pearl, aiding the shaken Pearlcatcher from his pain. She then became curious as to why the Pearlcatcher had no pearl. “Say, I’m awfully sorry if this is a rough subject, but where is your pearl? You’re a Pearlcatcher afterall, correct..?” She only got a saddened complexion in return. The younger dragon spoke up, in means to help her understand his situation, he wished for empathy and not attention. “I’m not sure. I don’t remember when or how I lost it, or if I was even born with it. To be blunt, I don’t even know if I had one to begin with.” Emotions swirled in her stomach, it almost overwhelmed her to the point it made her sick. They both cheered each other up after a while, and got along well. “I’m Mistletoe.” The female Pearlcatcher finally introduced herself, the other illuminating with surprise. “Really? The Mistletoe? I’ve heard your people are brilliant!” Mistletoe gave a hue of pink towards her facial scales, blushing slightly with flattery. “Aw, thank you.”
