 Leeuwin is one of the four Den of Pestilence brothers, alongside Kamchatka, Agulhas, and Okhotsk. Their former clan involved the worship of a great being, a Broodmother of unknown sinister - here, they find this allegiance wavering ever so slightly. The novel concepts of "peace" and "love" and "brotherhood" seem to have especially attracted this little coatl.

Leeuwin is a bit naive regarding certain more lighthearted parts of rest of the world - something not unexpected given he was effectively raised in a cult. Mareel has been teaching him about things like "floral arrangements" and "chocolate mousse" and "this thing Hadal likes to talk about called 'particle physics'", but most of his knowledge still comes from old ballads. Classic folk songs, you know, like "All You Need Is Love".

Overtly, he is the least connected to his former clan - he never speaks of it, or reminisces, or huddles in a corner with his brothers to discuss old memories and abandoned schemes. To an outside observer, he really has nothing at all to do with whatever strange things were going on deep in the Hellwell Undercroft.

But he is a musician, and his songs tell a different story. He sings stories of those in the clan, those outside it, famous histories and fantastical tales - and in some of them, words of half-remembered praise for a great being far away whose power is only growing as her children spread across the land. Even wavering faith and found family cannot entirely shake years of indoctrination. The Coelacanth Crew often doesn't listen closely enough to hear it.

Should he ever have to face the Broodmother again, perhaps he'll try to give her a flower crown. Everyone loves flower crowns.
