______ Ornery and at times almost brutish, Briar had been forced away from her original lair after an altercation between two dragons that left her falsely accused as the reason it started. Alone, hungry, and resentful, she came across Gelidon's lair as it was in the process of being built, and joined in helping him after the promise of kindness and food. Their tense alliance slowly melted into mutual respect, a lighthearted friendship, and at the end of the lair's creation, they had grown so close it would be foolish not to consider them mates.

______ After Cyrus, Arcadia, and Io hatched, Briar had never felt such fondness in her heart as when they had lovingly scampered around her. Gelidon hadn't shown much excitement; in fact, when regarding his daughters, he held only contempt for them. In the dead of night, Briar woke to the sound of yelping and the scent of decay, finding that her daughters were gone from her side. Exalted, Gelidon had told her. I had to do it. Enraged and horrified, Briar lashed out at Gelidon, and placed herself between Cyrus and her mate. Disappointed by her lack of understanding, Gelidon exiled her to the furthest den from the entrance, and sealed the cave behind him.
