If he knew he'd have fallen to the elements he wouldn't have allowed Strawberry to convince him to join.
Well... that's actually a lie. He'd have joined anyway, even though it involved journeying over dangerous seas and fighting his deep thalassophobia. The ocean terrified him, but his dream to sail to new lands beyond Sonieth made the fear worth the rewards.

Leatherback, a deep blue Ridgeback with a deeper, brooding personality. His dream was to sail and explore, to overcome his fear of water to feel free as last, but his fear of the sea became all too real as the ship he stood upon alongside [Strawberry] capsized in the icy waters neighbouring the Icewarden's chilling domain. The cold waters encapsulated him and his fellow crewmates, and Leather was the only casualty; his fear and avoidance of water forcing him to panic - his weak swimming skills stood no chance against the harsh waves and soon led to his demise under the ice.

Even in this spectre form, one very few can see, he tries to stay true to himself, acting as some guardian to his old crew. He still longs to roam the world beyond Sornieth's waters, but where his captain stays is where he chooses to remain - and thus, he holds down the ship in spirit from within the Quarantine Zone, flitting from here to there to check on his crewmates.


He remains in Sornieth, refusing to move on until he can ensure his old crewmates can live their lives in full, in the way he never got the chance to.
