Leneth has the unfortunate habit of doing the opposite of what she's told, purely out of spite. It's more a matter of chance whether or not this works when she's aware that reverse psychology is what's being practiced.

Her own gifts lie more with curses. Her eyes can see the threads of them where they tangle and snarl about creatures and things, and her claws can tease them apart and put them back together, in better or worse configurations.

This is what lost her the clan she was born to; Leneth has never quite figured out, either, when experimenting crosses the line into cruelty. She always wants to know, wants to see how curses work, from the little bite-sized passing annoyance to the massive knot ensnaring a fellow's heart, and she doesn't always realize or care for the hurt she's causing until the rush of discovery has passed.

It's lost her friends, and family too. But Leneth has her tangles, her beautiful glorious threads of magic and intent that bind things up in spite and wickedness, and she's vastly content among them.

She missed the curse that bound her heart to the most innocent coatl this side of the Ashfall Wastes, though. Leneth tries to ignore that one, but it's in a very awkward position and she can't quite get her claws into it. It slid right off him, naturally.

There are worse fates, she supposes. He's never looked at her with hatred: only pity. And her gift means she can tell what's the curse and what's her own, and there is a not insignificant part of her that likes him just as well.
