The first child of his parents and a primal to boot, Lex has always been magically attuned. Unlike many of the members of my clan, he is very comfortable with the pull that Earth has on him, accepting it the way a dragon accepts their own wings.

He also carries a sort of vague smugness just as easily, and can be slightly condescending if you ask him a question he thinks you really aught to know at this point, honestly. It's something that the older dragons tolerate, while the hatchlings are quick to roll their eyes at him.
He's settled into the coatl section of the lair, technically, and absolutely considers it his home, but it's common for him to be outside. Well. If burying himself counts as outside. Or climbing a volcano counts as outside. Or bribing a ridgeback to chew a tunnel counts as outside okay listen this dude loves the earth, and tbh that coatl instinct to go back home? Literally makes it worse. Earth + fire = volcano that's just double the effect on him.
Hmm. Maybe...maybe he doesn't have the control over his magic that he thought, since it tends to take over every thought he has. Maybe he does have more to learn.
Nah, he just wants to investigate that boulder over there for hours for normal reasons! Promise! He's never slightly scared about how his elemental magic gives him compulsions that normal dragons never struggle with! Why would you think that?

(Spoiler alert, he gets better, sometimes you just have to go through dragon puberty where your voice cracks and you hit a growth spurt and you're obsessed with rocks and want to live in a volcano for a while.)

Oh yeah, we're still in that teenage phase of his life. I haven't thought of a specific story, but...yeah, I think he disappears for a while and some dergens have to go hunt him down and drag him back home.
Like a couple mentors who knew something was gonna happen, and now they're going on a road trip/bounty hunt while he's like "I can't control myself and I'm going to drink that lava like soup"

and that soup is 🌶️ spicy 🌶️

I think the main character arc is him learning that, actually, even if you like your magic and you're comfortable with it?
Being god-touched is a really big thing. And under it all, you're still a regular dragon, now you just have to wrangle something the gods didn't really design you to handle.
