Janus


Janus had been struggling since the very beginning. She was born 5 days late; well, it wasn't really a birth. Janus fell out of her mothers dead, sliced-up body on the 18th of November. She doesn't know why her mother died, or what, or who killed her, but she doesn't ever want to find out.


She spent the first few days of her life wandering the land, and running from wild animals and unknown dragons. She never truly learned to speak, due to never having interacted with another dragon. Eventually she learned to be a highly skilled hunter. She could kill great beasts as a juvenile, killing the beasts with little effort. There was only one creature she wasn't able to kill. A Fae; Janus had thought it was a strange bird or weirdly-colored bat. It watched and followed her often, speaking to her in many languages, trying to communicate. However, it said one word more often than the others; "Janus", she then made this her name and could eventually speak it. One day the Fae went missing; and never returned.

One cloudy night a group of dragons out hunting ran into her. Her figure, to them looked holy yet ghostly, it confused them, and made them stare, frozen in awe of her beauty. Janus, having never felt true affection before killed all but the youngest one, who dropped his tail ornaments, trying to distract her. The ornaments worked, and saved his life, but not his soul. The dragon went mad, trying to see her beauty yet again, killing half his village in a rage. He managed to see her again, but his life ended shortly afterwards.


Before he went mad and died, he retreated to his village, telling everyone of her beauty madness and danger. He begged for them to send a patrol out to capture her and make her sane, so he could marry her. But from the danger he had told them about, they didn't want to risk it. After this he went into a rage, going mad. This tragic event made all villages within 500 miles, quit hunting in the forests for 3 months. These events, yet horrific, earned Janus her name...
