Achilles

Achilles doesn't remember what exactly led him to finding the Rift, as it's been so long since then. But what he can remember, quite clearly in comparison, is the wonder and awe he felt when his eyes first saw the realm known as the Crossroads Rift.



notes;

- didn't have a pack anymore when he came to the rift, reasons unclear atm (something that'll link back in later), memories potentially repressed due to trauma? (and now mostly forgotten due to time)
- helped the other inhabitants grow (examples in novas bio, will grab them when writing later)
- eventually was pushed to leave, as the riftborn were unsure what would happen to a mortal if they stayed too long. everyone who'd wandered into their home would often leave soon after, never staying for long. until achilles. the effects of the rift on non-native beings was primarily unknown other than mortals seemingly getting weaker the longer they stayed, so while nobody wanted this, everyone decided it was for the best
- quickly learns the reason he lost his pack when the enemy clan that wiped out his small pack is quick to track him down after he returns
- manages to hold them off on his own, even taking out a few, but is eventually mortally wounded.
the enemy clan leaves him in the wastelands to die
- he doesn't, however, because an entrance to the rift opens up near the dying mirror, maui* quick to scoop him up and disappear back into the pocket dimension.

* gonna add in that maui, alongside their role as the personification of wanderlust and adventure, took on being the quote unquote 'deity of war', and took on the role of watching over their fights (similar to nova watching over them in general, lavender taking care of their hopes and dreams, or ra watching over their day and night cycles). the specific groups the rift watches over tended to not get into altercations often, but that didnt mean there wasnt a need for it. maui may not have seen the skirmish that wiped out achilles' pack the first time, but they were there to watch in horror at the second time. not able to interfere due to novas rules (not interacting with mortals in their own plain out of fear of ruining something) or until the rift itself willed it, the most they could do was wait until the other group left so they could try and save achilles in the safety of the rift

- ends up perishing due to the mortal wound, but is reborn due to being in the rift at the time
- is specifically reborn into the personification of dragonity (a play on the word humanity), and is pretty much the exact same as he was before his death. except for the immortality bit, and a few of the new powers that came along with it
- the other deities are absolutely his new pack. it was pretty clear when he first found his way into the rift with how attached he got to them, and was one of the many reasons he didn't want to leave

- actually, he's reborn because of the rift, not just because he was in it at the right time. the rift is.. weird. its sort of alive in a sense, it has its own goals and stuff (most dragons stumble into the rift because of its whims, often because they need something whether that be a place to heal or were lost and need a way home), and at that moment, making achilles a deity was one of them.
